Exhale pressure relief - its a comfort feature that lowers the pressure of air coming through the hose while you breath out. It makes breathing and getting used to the machine easier. Many people agree that for the best treatment its best to eventually wean yourself off it. Hardcore papers have it turned off from the start of their treatment.

EPR is Resmed's term for the pressure relief. For the M Series Auto CPAP Machine you have listed the EPR equivalent comfort feature is known as C-Flex

It means exhalation pressure relief. You have a C-Flex machine, if I remember correctly. The C-Flex function lowers the pressure on exhale to make exhalation more comfortable (at least that is the claim).

C-Flex has four settings, 1, 2, 3, and off. Setting 3 will give the greatest amount of pressure drop on exhalation.

Rooster or anyone,
Can you explain what the C-Flex setting for a REMstar Pro means? I read your response and still do not understand. Is it easier to exhale on setting 1 or 3? And is it better to make the exhale easier or harder?

Sorry, I am really confused on this. I am having some problem with air loss through my lips. I don't think that I actually mouth breath but my lips open and air leaks out. I am trying a chin strap and have ordered a PapCap.

Here is what I am using. I notice that many of you have this posted but do not know how to do it so I will type it out.

REMstar Pro CPAP
pressure 9
micro nasal mask

Thanks, this site has really helped me a lot.

Setting '3' gives the greatest drop in CPAP pressure, so the hypothesis is that it is the easiest setting for exhalation.

That is a matter of personal preference.

IMO those "relief" features are more about marketing the machines than comfort of treament. Also IMO, those who really like the relief features are making their judgements based on how they feel while awake. Once they fall asleep, the mind/body would do just as well (maybe even better) with a straight pressure.

I know many disagree with that and don't mind if they assault my character in this thread.
