I just saw this and thought you Covidien/PB owners would be interested.

MANSFIELD, Mass. - Covidien's getting out of the home respiratory and sleep businesses to focus on more profitable, faster-growing product lines, the company stated in a release last week.

According to the release:

Caire, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chart Industries, has acquired Covidien's oxygen therapy products. The deal includes products under the Companion and Helios brands, as well as design, manufacturing, sales and service functions worldwide. Caire currently manufactures a full line of liquid oxygen reservoirs and liquid oxygen portables under the Liberator and Spirit brands.

Chart Industries expects the deal to boost its biomedical division's sales by more than 50% to approximately $150 million annually, CEO Sam Thomas stated in a release.

Embla, part of Iceland's privately held Flaga Group, will buy Covidien's sleep diagnostics products for an undisclosed amount. This transaction includes products under the Sandman brand, as well as design/development, sales administration, technical service and shipping facilities in Ottawa, Canada, and global sales and service functions.

Covidien also plans to sell its sleep therapy product line. This includes several products sold under the Sandman brand, as well as the DreamFit, GoodKnight and Breeze brands.

In fiscal 2008, sales of these three product lines totaled about $175 million.

This should be interesting. I sure as heck hope that this will NOT lessen the quality and effectiveness of the new Sandman xPAPs!!! Embla has some type of arrangement w/Nonin's oximeters so that the potential is there for some time in the future xPAPs will also be able to monitory and report 02 sats as well as Leaks, AHI, etc.

Just when I thought someone was going to teach Resmed and Respironics to think outside the box.
Let's hope this doesn't change the software/machine data info at an affordable price with the new owners.

Thanks for the info, Den.

Maybe Embla will replace the idiot who designed the Sandman's "tip me over spill me in" integrated humidifier... if he hasn't been fired yet.
Caire currently manufactures a full line of liquid oxygen reservoirs and liquid oxygen portables under the Liberator and Spirit brands.
Now we know why ResMed has to give its equipment in the US another name.

And I was hoping that if I got a new Covidien xPAP, it would do my housework, too.

Better hurry and get one now......before they remove that feature and pull the software from the market.

But, Slinky.......there's no software available for that one yet.
So far, it'll only blow the dust bunnies out from under the bed......when used manually.

Hello. I am the Marketing Manager at Embla and wanted to clarify that Embla has acquired only the Sandman Sleep Diagnostic business from Covidien, and not the Therapy business. From the posted Covidien press release it appears they have not yet found a buyer for their Therapy line, which also includes a product called Sandman. I hope this helps.

From http://www.rttnews.com/Content/Breaking ... =1&Node=B1
Covidien's Sleep Diagnostics products, which include several products sold under the Sandman brand, will be acquired by Embla, which offers an array of sleep diagnostic systems. The transaction includes design/development, sales administration, technical service and shipping facilities in Ottawa, Canada, as well as global sales and service functions. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
But...
Covidien's Sleep Therapy product line, which includes several products sold under the Sandman brand, as well as the DreamFit, GoodKnight and Breeze brands, has also been put on the auction block.
So Sleep Therapy (which includes some of the Sandman products, but not all) has not been bought yet and therefore would still be serviced via Coviden.

Hi "picksie24".

Welcome to the forum. Thank you for your input/clarification with regard to that article. From my read of it, I had interpreted it as they had not yet sold the therapy product line.
I just wanted to add that the Puritan Bennett/Covidien machines have had an excellent reputation on this forum and I hope they will retain that in the future.

It's always good to know that the manufacturers read these forums.

Hi there!

Having already "fused" Rembrandt and Somnologica to create the hybrid RemLogic, do you plan to incorporate Sandman as well? What would the new product be? RemLogicMan? SandRemLogic?

Are you going to allow Dr. Thomas' cardiopulmonary coupling routine to be offered as a Sandman upgrade?

TIA for any help.
