Being a homebody, I don't "get out much". Had the opportunity to accompany a friend from Ohio to Charleston, SC this week. Any Charlestonians on here who can recommend a "must see" while here?

These should keep you busy for a few days (They are my favorites): The Old Slave Market and the sweet grass basket makers, The ships at Patriots Point, Fort Sumter, and The Battery, one of the tea plantations.
Have a good time!

Ask about Middleton Place. It's not in Charleston as such, but it's not far outside. It was an old plantation. I haven't been there in years, but it's beautiful.

What types of things interest you?
If you're interested in a plantation house I'd recommend Drayton Hall. It's out near Middleton Place and Magnolia. The house was owned by one family until it was given to the National Trust. it's being preserved in near original condition. I think there's a shuttle to the plantations if you don't have a car available.
A beach day at Sullivan's Island or Folly Beach is always fun.
If you go to the harbor end of Folly Beach you can park and walk out through the old Coast Guard Station and view the Morris Island Lighthouse. This is a freebie with beautiful views. (Folly does charge for parking now but not much.)
The Market is really "touristy" but a must see if you've never been to Charleston.
You can buy a walking tour guidebook at the Visitor's Center that has different length walks through the historic district with information about historic houses and things to see. Walking around South of Broad is fun. You can take a carriage tour as well but I love to walk around and peek into gardens. Make sure to see the Battery and White Point Gardens.
There are quite a few historic house tours. Grab some brochures and see what you like.
Visit Waterfront Park. It has good views of the harbor.
Go for a kayak tour. Coastal Expeditions if a good company. They have a location on Shem Creek on Mt. Pleasant and one on Folly Rd. heading to Folly Beach.
Welcome to Charleston!

Re: OFF TOPIC - Charleston
All of those are good suggestions. I find that downtown has become a little too touristy for me. I like Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island for beaches. If your friend is willing to drive a bit, Edisto Beach is much less built up.
A friend takes her kids on a walking ghost tour downtown with a guide to all the locations that are supposedly haunted. Poogan's Porch (sp?) is a good place to eat and its upstairs is supposedly haunted.
