Quattro destroying my nose

Post by sifr » Sun Sep 06, 2009 10:48 am

I've been using the Quattro for about 5 days, and it's destroying my nose. After the first night, my nose was red, sore, and full of pus. After last night, it's weeping pus and there's a big open sore that's scabbing over.

The mask is NOT overtight, and I don't seem to be allergic to the liner, since the rest of my face is just fine.

I've got a padacheek on order that will hopefully solve this, and I'm going to try to sleep with a bandage on the bridge of my nose tonight in the hopes that this won't get any worse.

Has anyone else experienced this? Gotten any input into what causes it/how to make it go away?

There's lots of discussions here about this, my husband had to change to an UltraMirageFF because of the Q nose problem. Do a search and you will find some good answers.

Just find an old tshirt, lay the mask on it, cut around with a one inch border, cut a small triangle out the middle. Try it on and adjust the triangle.

Note to try it, hold the mask flat, lay the gasket on it, lean forward and put face on mask.

I've been using th Quattro for 1 year now, and whenever I have a problem with fit, I go back and review the HOW to FIT CD that comes with the mask. IMO, its not the mask that is doing it, it's your fit of the mask that is doing it

No it is the mask. Some skin does not like silcone or whatever it is made off blocking / touching it.
My mask floats nicely on top of me as I sleep, if even the slightest bit touch my skin from my mouth to the top of my nose, it turns bright red and feels burnt. It takes a couple of days for it to go away.

I just got the Pad-A-Cheek Forehead and Nose Protector. I've only used the standard weight one so far but it does seem to help the bridge of my nose. I'm not sure if this has been fully released yet - I'm doing the trial run. But a check of the website http://www.padacheek.com, might help you. The soft fleecy stuff this is made of gives you some separation from the silicone on the mask. That helps a lot I keep getting zits, or breaking out where the mask silicone hits my nose. Clearly, I'm allergic or something, maybe it's the heat.

I trade off between two nasal masks the F&P FlexiFit 407 and the Resmed Mirage Micro. They both hurt in slightly different places. My theory was that each would put pressure on different places - I think the result is that I just hurt in more places

Initiation into this club is worse than I thought it would be. Some mornings I do feel better, so I guess it's worth it. Hang in there

Interesting that it only affects the bridge of the nose. Maybe once the skin is broken, it is more sensitive.

Actually the bridge of my nose was always ok, it was the skin from the bridge down to the mouth that wasn't ok, especially the skin near my eyes, it felt like I spilled acid on it.
