Leaks are waking me up!

Post by NoREMs » Sun Aug 30, 2009 11:33 pm

Just started with an APAP after no success with a month of regular CPAP and a variety of full masks (everything leaked, and we thought maybe with such a high pressure of 16 that was part of the issue). With my APAP I'm trying a F&P Flexifit, which I'm not sure I like because the under-chin part actually makes me feel like I CAN'T breathe through my mouth easily, which was kind of the idea since I'm often congested.

Anyway, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm just hypersensitive to leaks and such a light sleeper that they're waking me up even if they're "acceptable" ones. I just can't seem to get through the night and it's very frustrating. I'm actually going to try a sleep aid tonight to see if that helps. Otherwise I'm at a loss.

Sorry, this post is probably more of just a frustrated rant than a question. Any encouragement from those of you that took A LONG TIME to adjust to your machine/mask?

it took me a full 3 months but I had no mask trouble

you need to carefully adjust the mask when lying with head on pillow in bed, pull mask slightly away from face to reseal it and to see if the tension is even, then lie on side to see if still OK also adjust part that pushes against forehead if available

when the soft cushion is warmed by your body heat it seems to grip better

cpaps cope with slight leaks by compensating
