I live in Argentina, and bought a Resmed Autoset Vantage a month ago. I suffer from apnea for many
years. Five years ago I had an operation in my nose, which did not help. The doctor told me I have a deviated septum, and that I need a cpap. I started, but very fast stopped, which was a mistake.
I moved to Argentina, went to a lab for a night, connected to a cpap and with cables to a computer, and
in the morning they told me that I have to use the cpap with a pressure of 9.8.
The doctor directed me to a salesperson, and she brought me the Resmed Autoset Vantage.
I tried different masks, but with none of them I could breath. I did not get enough air. I called the doctor,
and asked him if it should be like that, and he said that it should be very easy, but did not tell me what
the reason could be.
Nobody, including the doctor, told me, that if I am breathing through my mouth, I have to use a different mask - Full face.
I wonder if it is like that in other places.
So I called the salesperson, and she offered me two - Resmed Liberty, and Resmed Quattro. She told me
that I have to buy one of them, and that i can not try it before, as they do not have those for try, only
for sale.
Well, to make long story short - she found a used Liberty, and this night, I tried to use it.
I could not breath. It was like there is not enough pressure. So went it became 5am, before quitting,
I raised the pressure to 12. I did not feel a bigger pressure, but at least I was not suffocated.
Now, after this long story I would like to ask:
Can it be that the cpap has a problem?
Does anyone have any suggestion, what I can or should do?
Thanks in advance
Doron

Re: Resmed Autoset Vantage
Make sure the ramp is not on, of course. But you knew that.
The people who sold you the mask would likely have a manometer for checking that the machine is putting out the right pressure.
When we have sinus trouble, sometimes we need higher pressure, I think. I know I need at least 10 cm when my sinuses are dealing with allergies.
Keep at it. There is a way to make it work. Keep asking questions. The health benefits and increased quality of life make it all worth it.
