Help?? Fitlife mask on an S8

Post by lfzguud » Thu Aug 27, 2009 1:26 pm

Can anybody help with a setting question?
I have the RESMED S8 Autoset Vantage machine and just got the new Respironics FITLIFE (not the Fulllife but the FITLIFE) mask. I can't tell which mask setting to put the machine on for this mask. Any ideas? Since my DME has only sold one of these masks (mine) he's a bit confused too.
Since I'm currently using the Mirage Quattro mask the machine is set for MIR FULL. Best guess I can find is keep it there. Any help is apprecciated.
Thanks in advance

Since the FitLife is a non-Resmed mask, you should use the Standard mask setting. Your Resmed will then subtract 0.4 L/s (24 L/M) from the reported Leak rate. The FitLife literature should have a table chart in it w/the allowed vent rate at your set pressure (or reported 95% pressure). Compare that to the reported Leak rate and compute your real Leak rate.

Thank you Slinky - that is better information then what either Respironics or Resmed customer service gave. They both recommended the machine be set for the Mir full - which it already is.
Not too sure about this mask. Fresh out of the package it sure felt nice and while setting it up it seemed great.
Then, at 9 pm I went to bed. Fell asleep immediately but by 11:00 was uncomfortable. I tossed and turned until 1 am and gave up. Even with bumping my flow rate up a notch (14 vice the normal 13) it still didn't feel like I had gotten any air - sort of felt like I had slept without the machine entirely.
It's now 2:10 am and the Mirage Quattro is back on the machine and I'm heading back to bed. Will try the fitlife some other night.
It's gonna take some getting used to and this weekend is inconvienent for me to be trying to work out the kinks.
I'll report back on it soon though.

I tried, but I can't find the FitLife vent rate data on respironics.com. While the mask is on the website, a search returns nothing for FitLife.

Anyone know where the vent vs. pressure data is hidden?

I'm surprised Resmed would tell you to use the Mir Full mask selection for the Respironics FitLIfe. All of their literature states if one uses a non-Resmed mask one should use the Standard mask selection. BUT - I would think that Resmed would know better than I so .... maybe the Mir Full mask selection is the better choice.
