First time with power going out

Post by DaveG » Fri Aug 21, 2009 7:20 am

Had some big storms roll through Dallas last night. It was my first time waking up with the power out. I pretty much woke up right away from the change in ability to breath!

I highly recommend buying a power outage alarm to ensure you wake up. I sleep so deeply on CPAP compared to pre-CPAP that I didn't for 1 hour re-breathing & 'sucking' air thru my pillow mask's vent holes..think it was that 'air tru a straw' sound that finally woke me up (weird thing is that I didn't open my mouth to breathe at that time). My alarm was delivered the next day and went immediately went into the same receptacle as the CPAP's power plug. The 2 times since the power's gone out, the alarm woke me immediately and it acts like a flashlight so I don't trip over something when I get up. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/relian ... light.html

It's a great inexpensive accessory. I wish I could remember who suggested it, thanks. We have it and it gives me peace of mind. It woke me up once when electricity went out at 5AM and then I had to wake my husband up as he sleeps very soundly on cpap. I was glad to see that it works. Don't know when he would have awakened.

This happened to me for the first time also last week. I woke up right away. It was very unsettling at first as I didn't know what was going on, but soon realized there was no power. I tape, so the mask & tape came off in record speed. Ouch! A power outage alarm is a great idea.
