Well, after the obligatory 2 week period I was supposed to test out this setup, I have a new mask. I had phone to my equipment vendor last week and was told to try for another week, with AHI's ranging from 17-21. I was mouth-breathing I figured....sore throat, etc.

I phoned first thing this morning and informed the young lady that nothing had changed, and I was actually more tired and frustrated than before starting the therapy. She suggested a FF mask, which I had already decided was needed. I agreed and said I'd be down today to pick one up. She wanted me to wait for an appointment on Monday. That was not suitable for my work schedule, and I told her I'd like to get some sleep. She kindly advised me to come today but I might have to wait, as it was a clinic day and lots of new patients. Hard to imagine the numbers of people who need therapy. I don't feel so much of an oddity.....

Anyway, long story short, I got in immediately as the clinic rush had not yet begun, and I will be trialing the Mirage Liberty mask. I sure hope it works. Wish me luck.......

Lynda

Were you using a Swift before? I just want to mention what worked for me for mouth-breathing. Upon suggestions I received on this board, I bought the PAPCap from http://www.pursleep.com. I consistently have zero leaks and AHIs < 3. It's worth looking into at any rate. The only reason I suggested it is because I have yet to find a FF mask that I can use. I think my face isn't the right shape. I am hopeful that the FullLife might fit. I'm waiting for my DME to get it in stock. I'd like to have a FF mask as backup in case I have bad sinus congestion.

Thanks for the reply. However, I'm up in Canada and find ordering from the States a really big hassle. I had asked about a chin strap as well, and was told that they haven't had a lot of success with them. I was using the Swift LT for her, I think it was called. Anyway, I'll try this next mask and hope for the best. If all else fails, I can go back to the other one and try to order a chin strap I suppose. I just want to sleep.........don't we all:)

I made my own chin straps out of 2 inch wide elastic in a basic loop to go around the chin and top of the head, with a back loop sewn on at about 90% to keep it in place. You have to play around with the amount of tension a bit. For the next batch I will try velcro for the back loop to make it more adjustable. You can get the elastic at any sewing store. Just make sure the seams are flat and well sewn. I overlapped the ends and then sewed the square very thoroughly. The elastic forms a rough chin cup.
