Newby software question.

Post by PeterC » Wed Aug 19, 2009 7:48 am

I'm new to all this.

My trial period is coming to a close and I'm going to purchase the equipment as soon as I get a few insurance wrinkles ironed out.

From checking out the board, I've noticed that many of you have purchased a card reader and software to analyze the data generated by your unit.

From what I can gather, ResMed no longer sells this software in North America. My question is this: Is it worth going to the trouble of purchasing this software overseas? Every time I see my DME, they have me do a data dump from my machine and analyze it for me.

What do I gain by doing it myself?

Thanks for your time.

Peter.

Purchasing from http://www.cpapaustralia.com is no more difficult than from any other website, except that it might be a good idea to notify your credit-card company about the foreign charge in advance so that they don't bounce it. The AUD-USD exchange rate is even in your favor.

Having the software enables you to troubleshoot problems on a daily basis. Have a bad night? You can look at your data in the morning to see if there is something you can fix. You can also monitor your leak rate to be sure that you are getting effective therapy.

A check by your DME is better than nothing, if your check more than compliance data, and if s/he understands what the data means. Many don't.

I agree with that advice and opinion. I faithfully (my wife would say "compulsively") check my data every morning. I find it very interesting to see when my mask leaks are occurring, how long my apneas are lasting and when they are occurring, and those are things you get from the software and card reader. Most doctors (even if they take the time to thoroughly examine your detailed data over a period of time) will not share that information with you. They are only going to tell you that "it looks good" or that you should either up or lower your pressure settings.
