Blisters from rubbing seal against skin? Yup blisters

Post by Muse-Inc » Sat Aug 15, 2009 7:45 pm

OK, 3 wks into wearing the Hybrid with no problems to speak of, slowly regaining what I lost in during my loose lips detour. I felt lousy when I woke up this morning and went back to sleep...slept a total of 13 hrs...yeah ridiculous amt of time! Felt good when I finally woke up, took the mask off, had an itchy spot so I scratched it...oops, fluid...not blood, thank goodness...what the heck, a blister or 3? Did I rub blisters along the edge of the seal? At 1 pt, I remember tightening the top strap, then loosening it...could I have pinched some skin between the top strap and the seal, then irritated/rubbed it to the point of blisters? I am now consistently waking up every 1.5 hrs or so (REM events maybe, have dumb CPAP don't know) which is new for me, then turn over and try to find a comfortable place on the contour pillow given the oral cushion (still not fully adjusted to the alien atop my mouth). It looks like several smallish blisters clustered in an area about the size of a cocktail onion or several large capers (why does food come to mind? not that I need a snack or anything ). When I hold the oral cushion up, it's just outside the seal, right where any rubbing on the pillow would occur.

Does this sound familar to anyone? Fixes? Suggestions? Could it really be blisters from rubbing against the pillow?

Your skin may be reacting to the silicone seal.

Get an old t-shirt and make a gasket so that the piece of shirt sits between your skin and the oral cushion.

Oh ... and use Ayr's gel w/aloe to help the blisters heal more quickly.

Definitely blisters. Used my DermaE Alphlipoderm every hr and the leaky ones dried up totally and the skin sealed over so I could wear mask last night. This morning 90% of the swelling is gone and the skin is pink not raspberry. Weird. Maybe just the extra-long sleep and my fiddling with the strap overnight. Last night was OK...well, just my usual assortment of events that wake me up .

I've gotten the blister(s) on the bridge of my nose. I've had my CPAP machine and nasal mask for over 2 years. Just got a replacement nasal pillow last week - it's the exact same model as I had before. Yet this blister is *there* with a swollen, hateful and painful vengeance.

I've been using a bandaid on the area at night. But I wonder how long it will take to adjust to this "new" nasal pillow. I've tried various adjustments on the headgear - losening here and re-tightening there. so far no success. And I loathe to call Vital Aire for "support" - their customer service is pathetic.
