Mask for sore neck?

Post by TheeMrFrog » Wed Aug 05, 2009 2:34 pm

My wife has severe apnea. She also has bone on bone problem on the back of her neck. She does not want to
use the sleep machine because the mask straps hurt the back of her neck. She needs a full face mask and we
have not been able to find one that has straps on the back of the head instead of on the back of the neck.
Does anyone know of a mask that does not strap on the back of the neck? Please help. Thanks.

I don't know of any that are in production that don't anchor at the back of the neck. However, we CPAPer's are known for innovation. You could try (if you're really good at sewing) changing the position of the lower strap on the headgear. Or you could get some leather, fleece, or whatever at your local craft store and try to increase the surface area of the straps and maybe spread that pressure out and reduce it that way. With a little out-of-the-box thinking you might be able to come up with something

if she can breathe thry the mouth only, then use a nasal pillows type mask and tape her lips every night
sometimes the nostrils are blocked by mucus which is removed using a netti pot or other nasal irriagtion method
