New machine after 17,000 hours
New machine after 17,000 hours
I am getting a new cpap after 17,000 hours logged on my old Remstar Plus. I have read a lot of info on this site but am still confused. I really want to take charge of my therapy and told my doctor"s "nurse" that I wanted an auto with data capabilities that I can monitor. She said she never heard of an individual being able to access the data, only doctors office or DME. I suggested she check out CPAPtalk but I doubt she will so I am in for an uphill battle. The DME my insurance uses is the Visiting Nurse Association so there isn't even a store that I can go into and discuss features of different machines. Please offer some autopap machine suggestions with exactly what I should ask for.

Hi Amy,
Welcome to the forum.
Do you have your original prescription? It's still good for purchasing through an online seller.
You might check out some of them.......CPAP.COM is also the provider/host of this forum and will price match other sellers if a lower price if found.
Here are some links to compare some machines.

Re: New machine after 17,000 hours
I'm just a few thousand hours behind you and thinking the same. About time to trade it in. Some DME's are nice enough to show the machines. Some manufacturers have made it more difficult to pull data from the machine. Others easier. Respironics is a pain.
The new machine that replaces your machine (the plus ) I think is the M series. https://www.cpap.com has a good selection of all the good machines plus reviews and sorting by user reviews and top sellers. Take a look at ratings and blogs about machines. Follow the link above and read reviews / judge seeing people putting how happy they are with their machine. The ratings are honest here. Ask questions about specific machines here on the boards. People will help.
The best selling, the best user rated rated are no longer the REMStar. Also, keep in mind, depending on insurance, it -may- be cheaper to mail order the machine and pay outright than go through a DME and insurance. With my insurance it is sometimes cheaper to mail order stuff than go through the required DME. Quietly discretely find out how much you can ask for.
Do you have auto adjusting pressure? Humidifier? Heated Humidifier? C-Flex? Auto Adjusting Machines? What are you use to?
They have something called BiPap now. Not sure but it looks like a better c-flex.
It sounds like your visiting nurse is lacking common knowledge about cpap. That is not a good sign but at lest she did not decline it immediately. Some of the packages that sell at cpap.com include usb hardware, cards, software and the works to look at your sleep data. Stand firm and demand to get the equivalent of what you have.
Years ago I mail ordered the adapter from china and got the data recording working. My insurance did not cover that but I did convince them I needed a machine that could provide the data.
Luck & Best Wishes. David.

FWIW, there are rumors in these parts that Respironics will introduce a new Q Series and ResMed a new S9 series later this year.
Details on both are scarce.
