Afraid To Use FFM--BPM Too High

Post by Paul22 » Sun Jul 26, 2009 3:39 pm

For over 5 years I have been looking for a FFM that I could wear—finally found one that, with the help of some foam tape on my nose, I could tolerate. But now I am afraid to use it.—BPM go too high and I feel very yucky the next day (even though the other numbers aren’t too bad, at least for me).

Using Nasal Aire II cannulas the median BPM was 13, the 95% level was 25. The next night, using a Quattro FFM, the median BPM was 33, the 95% level was 41. The day after using the cannulas I felt fine. The day after using the FFM I felt bad, just like I feel when the leaks are so bad that I get very little, if any, treatment for apnea

For the two days the other numbers are:

Leak: Median 95% - AI HI - Tidal Vol: Median 95% - Basal SPO2

Cannulas 8.4 26,4 1.0 5.2 320 420 95.3

FFM 3.6 13.4 2.1 3.0 260 480 95.4

Equipment: VPAP S (Bi-level, 13.4/10.2) old Humidaire II Humidifier, Pulse Oximeter CMS-50D+

Using the FFM another night resulted in essentially the same numbers and results as the first night I tried it. I would like to know what is happening and how I might do something about the bad results. FWIW.I have read all I can find on the forum about Nasal Aire II (which I have used or over 5 years)and their headgears—and I still can’t consistently stop them from leaking.

Thanks for any possible help (or, reverting to my native language, the vernacular of South Texas of the 1920’s and 1030’s, “What the h--l is going on?”)

Did the machine get set to know the different mask? Mine works differently with different masks but it has to know which mask you are using.
