Neck pain

Post by giantred » Mon Jul 20, 2009 12:40 pm

I have the comfort classic and once again I'm getting neck pain even with the Pad a cheeks. I think it's the straps on the headgear. Can anyone help.
I'm using the CPAP again and I'm feeling somewhat better, however, the neck pain from the mask is coming along with it once again. There must be some solution. I don't want to use nasal prongs because it will put to much pressure on my sinuses and I will have nose bleeds, so I need somekind of mask that won't give me neck pain.

feel for tender spots on face and neck

remember to not lie stiffly in bed, especially you dont need to lie on your back, lie anyway and get comfortable, adjust the straps when lying down in bed, they should be only just tight enough, pull mask slightly away from face to check

I had this exact same problem. Unfortunately, the only thing that worked for me (I've tried many things!) was to switch to a mask that doesn't have neck straps. The back straps were cutting into my neck too much. I now use the Swift LT for her (there is a regular one for men too) and that has helped immensely.

It might not be an option for you but I figured I'd throw it out there.

Straps are just pieces of fabric/elastic designed for the average head shape.

1-Go to a fabric store and buy some similar sized elastic, some velcro and a bag of safety pins and a hand mirror.
2-Cut the elastic so that it resembles the straps but a little longer.
3-Using the safety pins shape it into the same shape as the straps and try on. Using the hand mirror look at the back of your head and see the arrange ment.
4 -Take off - adjust the straps so they no longer press where you don't want them to.

repeat 3& 4 until you are happy. add pieces as needed like across the top of the head to keep the straps in place.

With a needle and thread (or the use of a friendly sewer with machine) attach the straps together where they are safety pinned, put velcro where the original straps had velcro.

Trust me it is doable.

By you friendly fetish wear and corset maker.

You could go with leather and brass buckles but that might be uncomfortable.

It could be a whole new fetish wear category. CPAP mask straps and hose covers in shiny latex or leather with matching cuffs and bikini. People might be pounding on sleep labs doors to get into the latest kewl trend.

Got my Hybrid today and the straps are waaay too long (will try to hook up anyway and try the mask tonight, at least I didn't freak out when assembling it, not sure how irritiating the seal around my mouth is gonna be overnight & that neck strap... yikes, just hafta try it out). Might indulge in some fun and make my own headgear...saw a remnant of black&silver sparkly swimsuit fabric just the other day...haven't seriously sewn in yrs but I have a machine and at least the rudiments of the shape I need. Gotta figure out how to attach Velcro pieces to straps without leaving edges that'll irritiate my oh so touchy skin (maybe microfleece for padding) but the hope of ending leaks leads me onwards. Now I'm intrigued, how much stretch do I need if any...best fabric for sliding thru clips...maybe rigid headgear fabric with grosgrain-ribbon straps and microfleece wraparounds for padding...leopard/zebra print with black straps maybe?
