Mask for women ?

Post by TrueBlue » Sat Jul 18, 2009 2:14 pm

Still quite new to all this and have this horrible mask on loan from sleep techs at the moment so am actively looking to purchase my own. Can any ladies recommend the Resmed Mirage Swift LT for women? Noticed there are a few comments about these masks but would like an opinion on whether they are the best buy or whether there's something better out there. They look so user-friendly but are they as effective ?

A female user on another board posted a positive experience with the Respironics Fitlife mask, it's a total face style.

I couldn't wear it. The best for me has been the quattro after trying 5 others. I hate it but need the full mask at this point because my pressure is so high. the gel ones slip and leak. Good luck

I am three weeks in on this journey. I have the Swift LT and have slept with it all night, every night. I can't even tell it is on and sleep on my side and stomach. I have not had problems with leaks. I only have to solve the rainout problem as I have to shake the water out of the pillows once a night. I have humidity on "1". Thus far I have not had problems with mouth breathing. Just got software and my numbers look good. I am a teacher on summer vacation and have to figure out what to do with all the extra time I have during the day; time that I used to spend napping.

I use the Fisher and Paykel Opus 360 and it's so comfortable i forget I have it on. I have no problems with leaks, and I can wear my glasses with it on, which is a big plus for me.

Respironics ComfortGel Nasal, petite size. I haven't had any problems with it slipping. I would imagine that the full face version would be just as good.

I love my Respironics OptiLife! Minimal mast apparatus, great for side sleeping. Works well on my small head. Comes with 4 sizes of nasal pillows.
ResMed S9 range 9.8-17, RespCare Hybrid FFM

I used the Swift LT for her with XS sized pillows and loved it, the ONLY reason I switched to a full face mask was because I was mouth breathing. The Swift LT for her was very comfortable, barely even felt like I was wearing anything once I got used to nasal pillows. I sleep on my side and my back and never had a problem with tossing and turning and sleeping on my sides with it on. Leaks went up but that was due to mouth breathing. I have quite a bit of sinus problems and have always had to breathe through my mouth, so I attribute that to why I was mouth breathing not to the mask itself. It's a great little mask especially if you have petite features!

I have had a large variety of masks in the 3 years since I was diagnosed. One thing you need to be aware of with nasal pillows is that they do not work well with higher pressure numberfs. My high was 15 when it was recommended I try to use 2 different ones, felt lik Petunia pib in the mronings with one and the other tended to lift off my face.

I have had a lot of trouble finding a mask that doesn't leave strap marks on my face. Karen at Padacheek even worked with me on a couple of covers, but I still had to switch to a mask that has almost no straps across the cheeks. Right now I'm using the Aura Headrest (at least that's what it used to be called. It has a new name now that I can't remember.). Those of you who are using the Swift LT, do you have problems with marks on your face from the mask?

I've had no problem with marks using PadACheeks with the Swift LT, but you need to be aware that using a nasal mask will more likely than not require that you use mouth tape to prevent mouth breathing/leaking which can ruin your therapy.
DeVilbiss IntelliPap Std Plus with Smartflex; Transcend miniCPAP & Everest2 w/humidifier & batt for travel. UltraMirage FFM; PadACheeks; PaPillow. Using straight CPAP at 13.0/passover humidifier. AHI consistently < 1.5. Began CPAP 9/4/08.

zavan3, have you tried 'passover' setting on your humidifier.
Seeing that it is summertime, maybe you don't need any heat.
I hope for your sake it solves your rainout problem.

Also keep your hose under the covers rather than up over your head. Works like a charm for me, 100% of the time using mostly passover, but sometimes 1 on the HH.

No marks at all. I have the little covers that came with the mask and they work great! I love this mask - I am not a mouth breather so I don't have to tape or use a chin strap. Wearing this mask feels like nothing at all.

I don't think my machine has a passover mode. I try keeping the hose under the covers tonight.
I also use the Lansinoh cream which keeps the pillows sealed.
