bugs anybody?

Post by nobody » Wed Jul 15, 2009 8:49 am

There have been a number of bugs that have decided that my house is a great place to be this summer. Specifically ants and roaches. I've had ants before but this is the first time ever I've seen roaches in my house, and they seem to really love my bedroom. I started to think they may be attracted to the CPAP? I usually leave the water in the humidifier and I just leave my mask on the bed when I get up. I thought roaches tend to like kitchens, isn't it unusual for them to be concentrated in a bedroom? I don't have any food in there, just the humidifier water. I bought a plastic tub with sealing lid to keep my CPAP in during the day. I'm highly paranoid of bugs taking up residence in my machine. Anyone have this happen? And how do you get roaches to go somewhere else without using chemicals?

Remember to close the hoses as well -
I had ants in the short tube !
I think one will find roaches at any place in your house.
They like my linen cupboard ! ? ! Sorry, but don't know of
any successful way that's non-chemical to get rid of them.
Maybe if you spray with chemicals (Fendona) outside around
the house and not actually in your room will eliminate them.

Maybe spray a perimeter of stuff around your bed and machine? That MIGHT dissuade them from taking up residence... of course, it could also just make them track the chemicals into your machine... guess it depends on how long it takes the chemicals to kill them.
Just keep in mind that the active chemical in most roach sprays is Nicotine...

I put everything into the tub (after removing water from humidifier). It's a tub meant for storing food so I think it's probably pretty good at keeping most bugs out. Maybe some very tiny bugs might be able to get in, but most won't. Can you buy anything like that where you are? Alternatively you could try putting your short hose in one of these sealing plastic bags aka "ziplock". Not sure what's available in south africa tho.

I haven't yet received my xPAP, but is this a common thing putting the unit and hoses in sealable tubs to keep bugs out? I had planned on putting the unit on a small table next to the bed and draping the hose and mask over the headboard in the morning. Just wondering if I need to rethink this.

I don't think it's common, at least I have not seen many people talking about it on here. I have used the CPAP for a year and a half and just had it sitting on a stand by my bed. It's just that I've seen bugs in my bedroom in the last couple weeks and I'm really paranoid about them getting into my machine. So far I have not actually seen any of them in or on my machine, but the thought of them possibly going there and crawling in my nose at night is just too much. It doesn't take much effort to just stick the machine in the box in the morning.

Ants are easy to get rid of. Get a package or two of ant bait stations at the grocery or hardware store. They contain poisoned food that the ants take back to their nest and share. Eventually it kills the colony.

Roaches are much harder to eradicate.

But those plastic bins are airtight and should keep everything out.

Yeah I've tried that with the ants, it doesn't work :\

I've had success with them. They come with different bait foods and poisons. Maybe you should try a different kind.
