Sleep issues along with sleep apnea

Post by mipookiebear » Sun Jul 12, 2009 6:52 pm

Does anyone else have other sleep issues beyond sleep apnea? I have been on cpap for about 4 weeks now. I have issues going to sleep at night and staying asleep. My legs want to move & my body likes to twitch. I am on a medicine to help me sleep. I also have trouble being hot and cold during the night. But since I have been on this machine I thought I would sleep much better than before. The only thing that seems better is I 'm not falling asleep watching TV or on the computer like before. I do stay on cpap at least 8 to 9 hours due to the meds. Every night I want to take the mask off during the night----it just drives me nuts. Plus you have to move the tubing all night long. Any suggestions on how to deal with other sleep issues along with sleep apena?? Or does it just take a long time to adjust to the cpap machine?

I have not been treated for restless leg syndrome. I have just been working on the sleep issue.

[quote="mipookiebear"]I have not been treated for restless leg syndrome.

It sounds like you should be. This is normally checked as a part of your sleep study.

You should not have to move the hose all night. You can rig a hook to either the top of your headboard, or experiment with something coming down from the ceiling with a hook at the bottom to attach the hose to (loosely), so that when you turn, etc. the hose won't be in your way. Lots of people have different fixes, so try the search engine with different queries.

I have other sleep disorders along with sleep apnea. Your mention of your legs makes me, like some others, wonder what your sleep study or studies showed regarding limb movements. Do you have that information?

I never received any information concerning my sleep study, except that I had sleep apnea. It sounds like I need to call and get this info. When I did the sleep study, I felt like all they were testing for was sleep apnea and nothing else. I knew that I had other issues beyond this problem. I was just so glad to try to fix this sleep problem. I just thought that I would get a machine, use it and feel better. I am learning so much from this web site. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
