Question about buying equipment

Post by Lavendel » Sat Dec 04, 2004 7:53 pm

When I got my CPAP machine a year ago I was allowed one machine & a mask. Just before we lost our insurance in June I got another mask just like the one I have. Now I have no insurance, but would like to get one of the full face masks. Do you just take your prescription in or can you use it here at CPAP.com on-line? Can you use your prescription for a different mask than the one you have? I was told NOTHING by the DME people when I got my original equipment & didn't know enough to even ask the right questions. We have since moved & I'm 2,400 miles away from my great dr. & feel a bit lost. I don't know If I need to see another dr. to get a different kind of mask or is that our choice? Is the prescrition only for the machine? Anyway, thanks for any help & sorry to sound so dumb, but I really have no clue!

Hiya Lavender,

You don't need a prescription to buy a mask or any accessories at cpap.com. The only time you need a prescription is when you buy a cpap, bipap, or self-adjusting cpap.

Come check us out, we have the best prices on the planet.

Cheers,

Ted

Lavendel,

Ted is right. Unless you are buying second hand you won't find a cheaper price than cpap.com. You'll also get great service. As you can see you also won't get the run around about what you can and can't but without a prescription.
Sincerely,
wading thru the muck of the sleep study/DME/Insurance money pit!

Thanks for the information. I truly appreciate it. I have checked out the machine costs & masks at CPAP.com & am impressed. I was **shocked** by what my insurance company had to pay through the DME company! I get upset when people are out there getting rich off of peoples illnesses or conditions by overcharging so much. No wonder insurance companies don't want to insure people with sleep apnea! My tests & machine were billed in the THOUSANDS!

You need a prescription to buy a complete mask. If you still have a copy of your prescription, that will work for purchasing a mask. If you do not have a prescription, you can purchase a mask kit and a head gear. This allows you to make a complete mask. You can also find masks and mask parts on eBay quite a bit cheaper than any DME. The primary problem with eBay is the limited ability to make returns. CPAP.COM has free return insurance on most masks. I don't know if they offer the same for mask kits. I have purchased several masks and various mask parts on eBay without any problem, but I already knew what size I needed.

Old thread from 2004.

But it does go to show you that there really aren't any new questions that we haven't heard before.
People just don't take the time to actually read the old stuff much anymore....it's too bad because while reading in search of one answer people often will learn even more stuff they didn't know they needed to know about.

And I lost my internet before I could delete my test post....now another zombie thread....  arises from the dead.
Oh well...not the end of the world.

Brains . . . Must protect my brains.
Should the motorcycle helmet go over or under the cpap mask?
