Humdaire is full or dry

Post by coker737 » Sat Jul 04, 2009 6:57 am

I have noticed in the past week that sometimes my Humdaire 3i is still full of water when I awake and I have dry mouth. And sometimes it is empty or about there as it should be normal. What gives? I do the same thing every night. Fill it up, install and close. i get all the air too.

Any advice?

Sounds like a short in the humidifier connection maybe take off the humifier from the front of the machine and look at the connection points or could be in the switch too.I know on mine H3i the little lite seems to go on and off repeatedly i guess that's the way it supposed to work i just don't know. The air will always blow through the humidifier weather it is on or off as long as the water chamber is in it.

Like BirdDog said, it could be a short.

Let's look at some other possibilities.

Which humidifier setting do you use? Is it the same setting every night?

I assume you are still using the full face mask in your equipment profile. Or are you using a nasal mask some nights?

As far as dry mouth goes, CPAP humidifiers are designed to keep the nasal passages from drying out. If you are doing a lot of mouthbreathing (with your full face mask), the humidifier cannot deliver enough moisture for the mouth. I have my system working very well with nearly no mask leaks and AHI < 1.0. On nights when I have some congestion, I may mouthbreathe for some periods. This causes dry mouth and there is no way around it except to try to minimize congestion.

I have found that one cetirizine (generic Zyrtec) before bed and a neti pot saline rinse once or twice each day helps minimize congestion. This in turn minimizes the amount of mouth breathing and dry mouth.

So check your humidifier setting, your leak line graph, and make sure you are using that full face mask every night. Then you may want to try to determine if the humidifier fails to heat every night due to a short.

I took it apart and everything looks good. Put it back and have a heater ON/Off light comes on steady . Performed High Tech Troubleshooting. Jiggled it around to see if the light flickers. All good. I use the Full Face every night. The setting has always been at the Mid Range. i will keep and eye on it.

thanks

My 3i lights flickers all the time when on. I also assume this is normal.

On the mornings when it's full, also check if the heater plate is hot? Is the water warmer than the air?

Of course the obvious question but it has to be asked. Are you wearing the mask the whole night? Is their a chance you are taking it off and putting it back on before you wake up for the day? Check your usage hours before you go to bed and when you get up to see if it is actually running. Meaning are you possibly taking the mask off without knowing it or is the machine malfunctioning and shutting down and starting back up.
