RESMED RESSCAN 3.7 SOFTWARE

Post by sleepyangel » Thu Jul 02, 2009 10:10 am

After reading that Resmed pulled its Resscan software for sale to the public (those dangerous people!),
I emailed them .
This is their reply:

"Thank you for taking the time to email in with your concerns. We appreciate the fact that you are activly involved with your therapy and want to manage it accordingly. Because these devices and masks are of prescription requirement, we can not sell the ResScan software to patient’s . All of our previous software versions have been for clinical settings only and not intended for home use. The clinical software allows for changes in therapy pressures , modes, sensitivities where appropiate. The restriction for clinical use is dictated by the FDA . You may want to ask your physician for a prescription of the software that would allow you to purchase and make changes with his/her understanding that you will be in contraol of changing the prescription as you deem appropiate.

Once again, thank you for your email as we are tracking requests for a patient friendly home version of software."

CALL TO ACTION! All Resmed users email Resmed and request software for us mere patients!
Or Talk your Doc into writing a script or buy it from australia!

God bless Resmed!!! They ARE getting the message!! Resmed users UNITE. Even if you already have ResScan WRITE ANYWAY. Lettem know they NEED to provide a patient version software!!!

But I'll stick w/my professional version, thank you - just in case, the ability to change therapy settings via the software isn't the only thing they change for a patient version. (Trusting soul that I am NOT!).

However, I WILL WRITE to them yet again about making software available to patients!!!

By the way, I've just gotta ask since I obviously must have missed something somewhere - why are we calling ourselves "mushrooms" and "'shrooms" ???

But we all know how to change the settings on our ResMeds: we learned it on this valuable site:
Get into Clinical Menu, take it from there. Heck, even i can do that.

All we want is full information on how or if the therapy is working. That's all.

(CPAP.Com sent my data card reader in ONE day!!!!! Now we wait for the mail from Australia. Sigh.)

I have the ResScan software that I purchased earlier in the year before it was removed from the market. I went ahead and sent an email out to Resmed tonight though asking for a patient version of the software.. I am hopeful that they will eventually produce the software and make it available to anyone who wants to monitor their own therapy. I cant imagine not being in charge of my own therapy.

Maybe we could be smart enough not to buy any machine you can't get GOOD software for. That's how I took care of my data problems. Jim

Hmmm. To each their own. I prefer the Resmed software. Easier to install, easier to use if you aren't very software savvy like me.

I was given (HA! I, me and the insurance, are still paying for it!) my equipment from my DME long before I found this site. I had no idea what OSA was even about then. Since then I have learned alot. I consider myself lucky to have even received the S8 Elite II in the first place compared to what I have read others received.. I had no idea what data capable meant.. Now that I do know though I intend to do everything in my power to monitor and control my own therapy. The fog is lifting and I am finally getting back to my normal, not being pushed around, self

This is not of great concern. There will always be a copy of the software available somewhere on the Web like it is the case right now on piratebay.com where ResScan 3.7 and clinical manuals are available. And if they decide to make a "patient" version available there will always be clinical manuals available all over the place and "receipe" on how to change the settings right here in this forum.

By the way there are many countries in the world who do not require "prescriptions" for a CPAP (or software) or anything else like oxymeters. If this stupid thing expands no doubt that you will find sellers like cpap.com or cpapauction.com located in Canada or Australia take your orders!!! Everyone should realize that all this fuss is not for the purpose of protecting the patient but protecting the monopoly of the medical and associated professions. Nobody in Canada will spend 1,000$ for a CPAP if he doesn't need it even if a prescription is not mandatory!

Correspondence to ResMed:

Dear ResMed,

As you are likely aware, there is a concern among ResMed CPAP, APAP, and BIPAP users regarding your elective action to prevent access of ResScan Software from customers. Patients/paying customers who are committed and highly involved in their treatment benefit from self monitoring/decision making involvement in their treatment.

Additionally, positive or negative marketing for ResMed products by ResMed response to customer requests is at risk. For example, you may wish to review cpaptalk.com recent threads regarding ResMed products. You will find some strong advocates of your products. However, recently ResMed is getting negative marketing in the area of customer responsiveness. In a setting where your primary business competitor has a strong hold, please listen to the message of your committed customers.

I possess the ResScan 7 software. I receive clinical services from a sleep physician/clinic totally groomed in nonResMed products. I take my laptop to my appointments for my physician to review my treatment efficacy. I've also provided written reports to my physician upon request. My physician gives me an order for noting pressure change needs. He exhibits no signs of distress that I am actively involved in my treatment. I am a ResMed Marketing Representative ever time I go into my physician's office. I am an example where customer access to clinical data/software not only serves me the patient/customer well, but serves ResMed well too.

Please release the negative mindset about patients/customers being unable to make appropriate decisions about their health care. I once worked at a world famous medical institution where staff were directed never to cross campus streets without the flashing "walk" prompt as patients might follow into the pathway of traffic. Our patients were concerned, ill or healing, not stupid. Please treat sleep disorder patients with respect not control. Also, reinforce you marketing advocates to continue doing their job well.

Respectfully,

elg5cats
