Sinus problems - Sleep doctor or family doctor
Sinus problems - Sleep doctor or family doctor
I have some sinus irritation that is probably cause by my CPAP. Should I see my sleep doctor about this or would my family doctor be just as good. There was a filter I hadn't changed that led to some of this. I have a few other things that would be good to talk about, so I'm hoping that my family doctor would be a good option. Thanks.

See your sleep doctor. Its likely they have encountered this event before. Way less trouble shooting.
Most family practice docs will screen for OSA, but could careless about the maintenance of it.

many CPAP users find that the best long term answer to sinus problems is sinus or nasal irrigation, type these into google for details

Re: Sinus problems - Sleep doctor or family doctor
I went to my local doc who put me on Nasonex (a couple of years ago). At 1st I didn't think it had helped or made much improvement. He asked me to persist & I did & now agree that he was right to get me to stay with it.
The sinus problems diminished quite substantially over time.
Good luck

Re: Sinus problems - Sleep doctor or family doctor
I had the same problem. The RT recommended some steroid nasal spray so I called my family doctor for it. At my next meeting with the sleep doc, she recommended adding the sinus irrigation. I think either could help you. Which one do you see first?
Re: Sinus problems - Sleep doctor or family doctor
Before talking to your doctor, try turning up your humidifier a notch. If the nasal passage becomes dry it can become irritated and inflammed, increased humididy can help. If this doesn't work talk to your sleep dr, They will probably suggest some type of nasal spray and or steriod. I would also question why did this get worse with the change of your filter? Your new filter could be contaminated, try changing it out for a new one. Laura RRT
