How many hrs of sleep/night to feel good?

Post by Muse-Inc » Sun Jun 28, 2009 3:55 pm

Realizing this varies for each of us, I was curious. While I slept >9 hrs in the beginning, I'm usually wide awake after 8 hrs.

Hi Muse,
I voted 7 hours but really, I need about 7.5 hours to really feel good, BUT anything over that, I tend to wake up feeling a little bit on the hateful side and sort of spaced out, so I definately don't want to sleep over 8 hours...

I almost always wake up after about 6 hours and need to go pee, as opposed to waking every 2-3 hours. Then I can either stay up, or I can crawl back in. If I crawl back in, I typically add another 2-3 hours to the log.

I can make it on 6 hours or less and often do. This is not what I prefer. I'd prefer to sleep 8 hours or longer like the rest of the world. My sinuses ofter make breathing while using the CPAP harder causing me to wake up. It sucks.

If I allow myself to wake up naturally, I sleep 6-6 1/2 hrs. most of the time with the occasional (couple times a year) 8 hrs. When I set my alarm I make sure I'm in bed in time to allow at least 7 hrs, and rarely wake to the alarm. I'm usually up before the alarm sounds.

With me it seems to vary.

Last night I got 10 hours sleep, but I know this morning had I spent any more time in the sac it would have been too much.

Typically I need a minimum of 8 - 9 hours to feel good in the morning... less than that an I feel tired for the day.

I'd say as many as necessary at first. I'm on my 4th month and sleep a good seven hours on average.

YMMV

I think optimal for me is 8-9...think it closer to 8, though perhaps too soon to guess.

But, it seems that I wake up after about 8 hours of sleep Sunday morning...so that's my guess. As always...I've been sleeping until I can sleep no more on weekends...and if I push the 10-11 hours on Friday night...I find that I only do about 8 hours Saturday night. Which seems to say that's the amount when I'm not in debt. During the week....I have an alarm that get's me up so that I can be late for work (sure I would like to go to bed earlier...but I have neighbors....)

On the subject of pee....I used to that every couple of hours. Now I can go through the whole night...even the nights where I sleep 10-11 hours (providing it wasn't the other friday night where I drank lots....of diet pepsi. I have no trouble getting to sleep, but I'm usually up at 5am to go)...without having to get up and go, there are even mornings where I don't have to go right away after getting up either.

Even though its called EOF - Every Other Friday (which Dave and Tammy don't have the kids) - it doesn't happen every other Friday, due to other conflicts. But, I try to make them whenever I can. I like the food.... Even that time I ate this: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3 ... d=17027471

I could probably do the burger again....but I don't think I'd keep at the fries once the get cold.

The Dreamer.

Hi there! For me to feel good I need 8 to 10 hours of sleep. It is the most appropriate hours of sleep for us. But somehow it depends upon the kind of work one has, some just have 5 hours of sleep while others are 8 hours. Sleeping hours are of different range so as for different people with different kind of working hours. In the long run one should really be opt to 8 hours of sleep to feel good. Over sleeping or if the person sleeps more than the appropriate hours, he / she might not be feeling well. Having more than 10 hours of sleep might not be good to ones health. It might gives you a headache or even body pain. So, if you really want to feel good then try to have the appropriate hours of sleep at all.

I like to get about 8 hours or more, but I have all kinds of sleep issues. My legs move. I turn over and over all night. Arms hirt because I put them over my head. I am either hot or cold----covers on and covers off. The tubing drives me nuts, so I take what I can take.

I generally get anywhere from 7-8 hrs a night and alot of times I wake up before my alarm goes off in the morning at 5:45am... I seldom wake up feeling dead tired anymore

Two years into this, and it still varies for me. If I go to sleep too early, I have trouble with early arousal. Right now I'm going through a heinously stressful thing at work, so I'm needing MORE than my usual amount, and the littlest bit of "short sleep" knocks me out. I really wish I hadn't stayed up for the 10 pm news last night.

I had to get up at 4 am for the Seattle Rock N Roll Marathon on Saturday (no, I'm not a runner, I'm the drop off/pickup person), and it just wiped me for the rest of the weekend. BF got me up at 8 am the next morning, and I required an afternoon nap.

IT VARIES. It always did before CPAP, and it still does.

Looking at the above answers, seems I'm typical - what we need and what we get straight are 2 different things.

I really feel best after 8 hours, can do with 6 or 7 every now and then. But never go over say 5-6 without waking first off. May go to the bathroom, may not, but usually drop off again for a few more hours.

But this is a dramatic improvement, used to wake every hour or 2 in the beginning, and this lasted for well over a year.

Always feel woolly-headed when getting up, but anything over 8, this can last a good portion of the day.
