I've posted similar threads under different titles, but I just wanted to update those who responded and express my gratitude for all the help.
I managed to sleep all night last night with my Fisher Paykel FlexiFit 407 nasal mask, woke up this morning mouth breathing but am not sure how long it had been going on. Last night, day 1, I could only tolerate it for four hours. Regardless, I have been dreaming for the first time in ten years, a good sign I think.
My question, and I posted it previously, is, do you learn to keep your mouth shut at some point? Many have said yes, many have said no and suggested chin straps or tape. I would like to hear more about other people's experiences.
Thanks!

Re: Mouth Breathing, Day 2
I am dreaming now too. Since I got my new machine , my pressures are running between 10-11 which is much higher than the 6 I was told it was after my sleep study and then my MD reluctantly increased it to 8 a few months ago. With the higher pressure I find that I am leaking from my mouth, so I have been taping and find that this is working for me. I love my nasal mask and want to keep using it. I also love the fact that I am dreaming again. Good Luck.

BunkyB.....to learn to shut your mouth ? I personally don't think one can.
Some hoseheads uses chin straps and tape. Others only chin straps or tape.
I use 3M Micropore tape and it works 100%.
The dreaming ! ? ! ........I feel like I am now living two lives....
the normal daytime life and the nighttime 'dreaming life'
and I remember all the dreams! And it is all about people -
wish it was about animals! (I like animals more ! ? !)
Best among people are those who benefit mankind
Re: Mouth Breathing, Day 2
I've been using a chinstrap, while it won't completely keep your mouth from opening it does help somewhat. my new mask has a built in chin support (OPTILIFE) so I don't have to wear a seperate chinstrap anymore.

Some have trained themselves to keep their mouths shut all night, Dreamstalker is one. I have head no luck after 3 years of cpap use. I tape every night.

Can I get the 3M Micropure tape at a regular drugstore, like Walgreens or CVS?
Thanks

Yes, you can find NexCare 3M Micropore tape at Walgreens.BunkieBrice wrote:Can I get the 3M Micropure tape at a regular drugstore, like Walgreens or CVS?
Everyone's experience is different, but I'll just mention that I recently tried this tape for a single night, and my face suffered more from that one removal process than it has from 9 solid months of nightly taping with blue painter's tape for delicate surfaces. I truly had to spend the better part of 15-20 minutes trying to gently remove the 3M adhesive (using soap, shampoo, alcohol...), and even then I was still rolling bits of glue from my face on my hour-long drive to work. UGH. Never again. Left my face feeling and looking pretty raw, despite my best efforts to work at it gently. Might be a good idea to do a search here to research the many threads on this subject and how to use and remove tape effectively and painlessly.
