Hi,
I'm a newbie here and have been reading for about a week. What a great place!!!
I just got my machine, etc today and have a question ALREADY.
The Mask I have is the ReMed Mirage Quattro Full Face. I'm a little confused about the adjustable knob on the forehead rest. It CONSTANTLY blows air out of the opening and I'm not sure if that's normal or If I need to adjust something on the knob???
Many Thanks,
Sly
Newbie Question on my Mask
Re: Newbie Question on my Mask
Is it leaking out the knob or just below it? In looking at the user guide
http://www.resmed.com/us/assets/documen ... er_eng.pdf
the vents are just under the knob. Check the picture on page 3 of that guide.

Re: Newbie Question on my Mask
Sly,
These full face masks are all designed to vent your exhaled breath and the incoming pressure "flushes" your exhaled breath at a rate fast enough to keep you from smothering under an otherwise perfect seal over your nose and mouth. There's actually quite a bit of engineering designed into that vent to ensure you wouldn't have to artificially struggle upon expiration and that's why just about all full face masks have a published leak rate needed to set up the cpap units properly by compensating for the "lost" air pressure that isn't being used to splint open your breathing passage.
If you operate your cpap unit under higher pressures, you may find that the sound of air escaping through that vent to be the noisiest part of your new therapy. Frankly, I find the sound of the escaping air to be a great "white noise" generator that masks other ambient sounds and helps me zone out completely.
Whatever you do, don't block those holes but you will find that the volume increases if your hose connection comes straight down in front of the vent; if you swivel the hose connection off to a 90 degree angle, you might find the sound less intrusive.

Re: Newbie Question on my Mask
Thanks spitintheocean, I appreciate your response. I need to learn more about all my equipment. GEEZ!!! I feel like there's way to much "awake" pressure. I need to set the ramp pressure I guess.
Thanks!!
