I have been lurking here for a few weeks. I finally joined because I got my CPAP machine yesterday. Last night was my first time using it. It went well, I was able to sleep and did not wake up one time as far as I know. However, I still feel absolutely exhausted this morning. Not sure if that is because I just need to catch up on lots of lost sleep or not. The doctor forbid me to take naps, which is how I was making it through each day. Not sure how I can not nap, I am dying here.
Anyhow, I am a mom of two beautiful children who are 3 and 1. Right now I stay at home with them full time. My hubby is a soldier stationed at Fort Stewart, GA. We will be facing a deployment at the end of the year, so I wanted to make sure to get the ball rolling on the Speel Apnea before he left.
The doctor did say that if I lose weight, I may not need to use the machine any more, so that is more motivation to get my butt in gear!
Before CPAP, I was waking up about 12 times per hour and the doc said that I am a light case of Sleep Apnea. I can't imagine someone with a severe case.
I do have a question. I was wondering if anyone uses any type of Aromatherapy products in your machine? I don't want to mess it up of course, but it seems like it would be nice to breathe in a relaxing sent instead of plastic.
Thanks!!

I don't think anyone would want to use anything 'inside' their machine; however, there are alot of people on the forum that use PurSleep Essential Oils near the air intakes of their machines. I am not personally into it, but from what I hear, it get's some pretty great reviews. I would check it out.

Your doctor is another idiot. Your body needs to catch up on sleep. Get whatever sleep it takes to start feeling better. But, if you take naps, make sure you use your machine.evelynlopez wrote:I have been lurking here for a few weeks. I finally joined because I got my CPAP machine yesterday. It's also highly probable that the sleep apnea CAUSED any weight gain. Losing weight, while is always a "good" thing, will provide no guarantees that you'll be able to quit using the machine.
This therapy takes time (think "months") to feel some type of recovery. You've got a "sleep debt" to repay.
If you're using a nasal mask, make sure you're not leaking any air out your mouth during your sleep time.
If you could fill out your profile with exactly what equipment you have, that would help.
Yes, there are some aromatherapy products to be had. Quite a few people on the forum use them.
Welcome to the forum and hang in there.

If you nap, do it, as Wulfman said, with machine and mask.
I assume the doctor hasn't spent much time with two toddlers, and I also assume you take you nap when they do theirs...
As for the pur-sleep aromatherapy -- note that the AirCandy Fragrances have artificial fragrances blended into essential oils like lavender. If there have been no recent changes, those would be the bottles capped in white.

I agree with Den and ozij. I'd take a nap whenever I felt the need and could squeeze in some nap time -- always using machine and mask for naps.ozij wrote:If you nap, do it, as Wulfman said, with machine and mask.

Perhaps your doctor is trying to get you to assume a "normal" sleep schedule, not stay up late, etc. Naps could make a person not be able to go to sleep at a normal "bedtime." But with two small children, there may not be such a thing as a "normal" bedtime for the mom!

Re: Newbie :)
I think my doctor wanted me to skip naps because I also have insomnia. I kinda got screwed in the sleep dept
I did end up passing out on the couch this evening after dinner. It was just a light sleep since the kids were running around calling my name every 5 minutes.
I am going to bed EARLY tonight!

I try not to take naps because it does make it harder for me to go to sleep at night. But you have to do what works for you!
For me that means usually no naps, consistent bed time routine, avoiding the drinking of too much liquid during the evening, and now I'm finding out that I need to avoid chocolate (in any form) in the evening too.
