quattro question

Post by GuyK » Thu Jun 11, 2009 12:12 pm

Hello Quattro users:

I've been using my Quattro for about six months, and I'm wondering -- at some point does either the mask or the seal have to be replaced?

I clean it periodically, and it seems to be in good shape (and it works well for me), but I've noticed a little higher than usual leakage this last week. At the same time, it seems like the seal gasket is a little more relaxed and loose than it used to be. It got me to wondering if it just gets too squishy to be usable (and I'd need a replacement).

Also -- since I have the teflon tape action going. Periodically, should the tape be replaced?

Thanks,
Guy

I don't know what your insurance company or state says in your case, but for me (Aetna) I can get a new cushion every month, a new mask every 3 and new headgear every 6. If your cusion is leaking and it's been six mos, I would get a new one. Best to check with your insurance carrier before your DME starts ordering a bunch of stuff so you aren't stuck with a big bill. As far as the teflon goes, as long as it doesn't leak and isn't growing things, I wouldn't worry about it.

If you have been able to go 6 months with the Quattro, it is obviously working for you. If your insurance, etc. will, get yourself a new mask. That gives you a new seal, plus a complete set of replacement parts. I used the Quattro for a while and still think it is a great mask (had leak issues with it, so I moved to the hybrid. But it is still my backup mask.). But it has a lat of parts that snap on and off. Even in polycarbonate, these will eventually break.

The teflon tape should hold up until it starts leaking again.
