Mouth taping

Post by Bearcat42 » Mon Jun 08, 2009 7:37 pm

About a month ago I switched to a nasal mask and I have not been taping my mouth. I use a chinstrap but I still wonder if I should be doing something different. My numbers have been kind of up and down and my AHI runs around 5.2 minimum. Should'nt I be under 5.0? I was hoping I wouldnt have to tape and that the chinstrap would be enough, but I dont know.

So if I wind up taping what is the best way to go? I have heard of the denture thingy being used but I would like to hear from those who have to seal their mouth each night and see what y'all think. Thanks.

I use Micropore Tape every night with my nasal mask. Works like a charm. It doesn't bother me at all anymore.

How are you feeling?
What is your leak?
Is your mouth dry upon awakening?

Rooster,
I dont feel quite as alert as I did in the beginning and I have caught myself yawning during the day. My leak rate average has been around 55-60. My mask at my pressure of 21 has a leak rate of 54 I believe so I guess my leaks are under control. And I have not noticed my mouth being dry upon waking up.

Bearcat....

I'm using a nasal mask.....with Lansenoh Lanolin to help seal at the nares.....and 3M 2" Blue Delicate Release #2080 Masking Tape on my mouth. My AHI is generally under 1.0 and I feel great.

I do not believe that an AHI above 2.5 is OK....regardless of what the medical establishment or the insurance racket says.

My honey and I have found (by using an Oximeter) that we can't maintain 93% or better blood O2 saturation levels unless we keep the AHI below 2.5.

I've been using tape for about a year......and I have no intention of changing that practice. It's comfortable, effective, and no problem.

What are your machine settings?

Have a look at this and let's discuss Positional Sleep Apnea tomorrow.
