Hello,
I recently replaced the cushion of the resmed quattro mask I am using because it teared during the night. The replacement also teared yesterday, after no less than one month's use. At $ 67 a replacement, the cushion does not come cheap. I usualy get into the habit of washing the mask right before I go to bed, drying it with a paper towel. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. Anybody experience similar problems?
Thanks,
Christo
resMed Mirage quattro cushion tear
Re: resMed Mirage quattro cushion tear
I have had two Mirage Quattro FF masks, and never had a tear in either one. Do you take the mask completely apart when you wash it?
A tip on what I do:
I do not take the mask apart when washing it, I submerge the whole mask in warm water with baby shampoo, swish it around and then air dry it. I wash it mornings so it has a chance to air dry during the day. If there is any water left on the mask before putting it on at night, I use a soft cloth to gently pat it dry, there is usually just a few small drops of water left. Maybe the paper towels are too harsh?
After watching the DVD that came with the mask on how to take apart it and clean it, I knew I'd never get it back together correctly . And I wash it every other day. Good luck.

Re: resMed Mirage quattro cushion tear
I have used the MIrage Quattro (3 of them in fact) for over 2 years and have never had a tear. I have sanitary wipes (non-alcohol) that I wipe the cushion with, inside and out, without taking the mask apart. I do that in the mornings after each use. Once a month (usually at the end of the month) I take the entire mask apart, soak it in warm soapy water, rinse it in clear water and then let it air dry and reassemble in the evening.
I would guess the paper towels (wood products) and maybe the ingredients of the particular soap you are using might be have a detrimental effect on the cushion?

Re: resMed Mirage quattro cushion tear
You might want to consider washing your mask a little earlier and leaving it apart so the nooks 'n crannies and dry out thoroughly. I leave mine air dry after washing. I used to wash my Quattro everyday but changed that to washing perhaps once/week and using the "Citrus II CPAP Mask Wipes" the rest of the time.christo wrote:I recently replaced the cushion of the resmed quattro mask I am using because it teared during the night. I don't believe washing is the reason for tearing. The mask should be staying in relatively the same position on your face all night long so there would not be enough physical forces to tear it. You may be doing something during the night to cause the tearing... perhaps inserting a finger under the mask to relief itching. <shrug>
Also don't rule out the possibility that you have received a bad batch of face cushions... have you discussed with the supplier?

I've torn the seal below the lip on a comfort full mask, I figured it was due to a leak during the night (mask shift) and the pressure I was using 19cm

During the night? Is that when the replacement tore, too?christo wrote:Hello,

If so, what are you doing during the night? Are you taking it off (during the night)?
I don't wash my mask(s) very often.......think "months"......I just wipe the cushion off with the palm of my hand before putting it on my face. I mainly use the Ultra Mirage Full Face (UMFF) but do have a Quattro. My (primary) UMFF is the same one I started out with 4+ years ago and other then recently changing the headgear, the cushion is the original one and it still works great. And, I never take my masks apart to wash them (in Dawn dishwashing liquid). When I dry them, I use a "flour sack" dish towel and just pat any excess water off of it.
