OK All You Poligrip People. Are You KIDDING ME??

Post by plr66 » Sat Jun 06, 2009 3:53 pm

So I tried these Poligrip strips three times today, and am still asking myself why any of you prefer these things to a simple piece of tape. What the heck? I did not use faucet water, just licked my lips and the strips--placed them in a wide V on my lower lip--licked my upper lip, and then closed my mouth tight. No go. I never could get two strips to feel right (ends sticking out at the sides, edges inside my mouth that just felt yucky, never a good seal.......and removing the gunk from my lips just made my mouth raw from the first go-round. UGH!!!!!!!

What am I missing here? I tried them because they would be easier to carry with me on trips than rolling the tape to a realistic size roll. But OMG!! What an unsuccessful mess. The box I bought is called "Super Poligrip Comfort Seal Strips" in a purple box. Can all you experts set me straight?

Hi

I am a super poligrip comfort seal strip user

I cut the strip in half along it length forming two pieces of the same length but half as wide

I lick my lips and place a strip on each side of my mouth.

It works well as I do not mouth leak and if need be I can open my mouth

I prefer it of taping which I have also tried

I am an avowed polygrip fan.

I don't cut them in half, just bend & insert between lips. My son & I actually swear by them - also for him, his wife has the added benefit of no more rivers of drool emananting from him! Quite often a washout when she turned over the wrong way!

They don't seem to work for everyone, but I do know they take some time to get right. Too wet, and they go all gooey, and too dry and they don't stick. You also need to leave it 10 mins or so after inserting for them to gel well. If you get it right, they should just peel off in the morning - perhaps you're wetting / licking your lips too much?

I don't use them anymore - they seem to have cured me of a lifetime of mouth breathing - I now have no trouble right through the night, as well as waking hours.

USING TAPE IS STUPID. BUT HEY, STUPID IS WHAT STUPID DOES.

I haven't tried the poligrip but I don't like tape. I do like the white chin-ups, tho. You can open your lips a slight crack, so you don't get that claustrophobic feeling.

Because when I use the tape, and I have tried 10 different kinds, it won't work and I 'breathe' right through them or slobber so much with my mouth open even with tape that it makes the adhesive on the tape loose. Using the poligrip makes it so that my mouth does not come open at all. Wish I could just use tape!

So I'm wondering if I have the wrong product, or the wrong process. The strips I have are 1/8" wide and the thickness of cardboard. Is this what y'all use? Do you just let the ends stick out the sides of your mouth? When some of you say you bend them, what do you mean? I left two of them in that wide "V" pressed in my mouth for about 15 minutes each time, but never got a good seal. Still wondering what I'm missing here.

Yep, when you bend them you still do get bits sticking out the end - sometimes I leave them, sometimes I try to poke them in once it all softens up. I only ever use one - it left a slight gap at the ends, but I never found that a problem. My son is a large guy, he uses one and a half to cover the whole mouth. Neither of us cuts them lengthwise (along the long side - widthwise?!) at all.

Yes, it does sound the correct product - like thin cardboard! However, and this is the tricky bit, and I do realise not as simple as it sounds - once you get the degree of moistness right, not too wet, not too dry, you press lips together hard. Don't try to open again for at least 10 minutes. If you've done it correctly, the lips are sealed shut. You CAN open, but it takes consciousness & effort usually. If you drool too much and they unseal, you can dry out a little by breath or whatever and just reseal quite often.

It does take perseverence, but leaves no marks the next day, and for many works really well. Just have to work at it a while.

Hi

If you cut them in half along the length you get 2 strips same length but half the width of the orginal. Use one strip for each side of mouth (left and right) You can bend each strip according to the contour of your mouth so there is less sticking out

It's not that deep, people. Bend the strip to conform to the contour of your lips. Run them under the faucet, apply to lips, overlap in the middle and close yer trap. I cover over with a 6" strip of 2" blue tape and I get 0.00 leaks.
