Encore Software and MacIntosh Users
Encore Software and MacIntosh Users
Several of you have recommended that I get hold of a card reader and software. The system requirements for Encore indicate that it runs only on PC-compatible machines. We are a MacIntosh family. I see that a few years ago there was some discussion of this issue. I was wondering what other Mac users were doing to overcome this barrier.

Re: Encore Software and MacIntosh Users
Hi there -- I asked this same question about a month ago -- here's the thread:
viewtopic/t42466/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41 ... 71#p362871
My friend had an old PC he wasn't using, so we ended up just getting a cheap monitor/keyboard at Costco - we downloaded a pirate version of Encore Pro for free and just paid for the card reader USB. Some of the other ideas in the thread sound doable, too.
Good luck -- seems to me it's an opportunity for some Mac genius!

Re: Encore Software and MacIntosh Users
After weighing the cost to upgrade to Leopard (with Bootcamp) ... then buying a Window OS ... then sharing the hard drive with Windows (ugh!) ... my husband decided (for us) that our best option was to invest in an inexpensive Windows laptop and dedicated the computer to just support of Encore Pro and Encore Pro Analyzer.
With the occasional ( ) hiccup that Windows is known for ... I'm glad he decided on the laptop approach. Yes ... Windows has lived up to it's reputation.
That's left us with the Mac humming along as usual without a care in the world! Supporting our computer needs while my husband struggled with Windows acting up (acting out?).
Good luck.

.
I really love VMWare Fusion! It was very easy to install (unlike Parallels which I tried first, but returned). Now, I just toggle back and forth easily between OS10 and Windows. (I greatly dislike Windows - so I ONLY use it for my Encore Viewer software). Everything works seamlessly. I'd definitely recommend VMWare Fusion through the Apple Store.

PS - You will have to buy Windows XP also.

Our iMac runs both platforms; don't know about any extra Windows stuff necessary.
But nobody in the house ever uses Windows...

Did you steal your CPAP machine too? I'm amazed how many people on this forum think it's okay to steal software.psychomamma wrote: we downloaded a pirate version of Encore Pro for free and just paid for the card reader USB.
Re: Encore Software and MacIntosh Users
while i neither commend or condem the piracy of software, it in itself should send the message that the manufacturers need to improve thier wares. veiewer which is available is limited due to the form of database it uses..pro uses a more adaptable database but because the user can change machine settings it is no longer available to the public.El Pap wrote:Did you steal your CPAP machine too? i'm sure this is a cya move to keep money grubbing laywers off the doorsteps .
but we live in a generation where people want the enpowerment to do for themselves. bad and or unethical dr,s rt,'s and dme's don't help the mistrust many here have.
would you put all your money in a bank and let them pay your bills manage it completely and give you no option but to take what they hand you back once a month, be it $0.02. probably not .
we as a species have the yearn and desire to do better for ourselves and will do what is necessary to achieve that.
so if they make what we want the majority of us Will buy it
Re: Encore Software and MacIntosh Users
While I agree with your opinion about the quality of the software, I cannot agree that unlicensed copying of the software is necessarily an outgrowth of the poor quality. It is the desire to obtain something for which one does not want pay the price to purchase.
When you purchase software you purchase a right to use the software. If you transfer that right I have no problem; when you transfer the code without transferring the right you are illegally retaining the software and the recipient is receiving stolen goods.
The recording medium, digital, and the transfer medium, internet, make it easy to do and very difficult to prevent. Never-the-less, it is stealing.

Sorry ... I've got to jump in here in defense of I'm sure a lot of members on this forum.
First of all, Encore Pro has not been available for purchase to us mortals for a number of years.
Secondly, the Torrents (where I assume they got their software) is a SHARED function. The software is being SHARED ... not sold. It is also an older version ... 1.8.48 (last one offered for sale), while the current version is 1.8.69.
By the way Encore Pro is not copyrighted.
It is piracy when the software/song/etc is copied and SOLD. The courts have already decided on that issue. That's why it is now legal to "share" songs via the Internet.
The key word here is SHARED. I've seen Encore Pro for sale on EBay ... that's piracy.
By the way ... before you ask ...my copy of Encore Pro WAS bought legally!
