buying a cpap machine

Post by NEEDSTOSLEEP » Sun May 31, 2009 2:04 pm

I have just found out that my insurance will not pay the monthly rental fee for my cpap even tho I have met the deductible. I will not pay the outrageous rental fee to the DME especially after they more than double billed me for the humidifier, mask etc. You get hit with all this & it's overwhelming so you go ahead with it all & that's what their counting on.

Here's my problem: I plan to take back the cpap & purchase one. After, I've done that, how am I going to program the purchased one myself?

no matter where you get it unless it is from a private person you will need a precription. that is according to fda regulations.

Depends on who makes it but I would say if you did a search here, you'd likely find the instructions you need.

Or check this link http://www.cpap-supply.com/Articles.asp?ID=130
I would just stay away from the Fisher Paykel machines cuz they don't offer any useful data or software.

Do NOT forget to get a copy of your prescription (and PSG), in your hand.

Re F&P Machines - the latest models do offer data - yup, detailed nightly data.

See these models

Need to sleep..... Get your prescription and preferably a copy of your sleep study from your doctor then do whatever you want to fill it. I suggest CPAP.com.

Also, any doctor can write a prescription. Your primary care physician if he/she is willing to help. But you should be able to get the original one. May need to use some strong language or make mention of the State Attorney General....
