Let's Raise Awareness with a Bumper Sticker

Post by BleepingBeauty » Wed May 27, 2009 10:45 am

In chat the other night, dwlyons had a great idea: Let's create a bumper sticker that will help raise awareness about sleep apnea. He has since posted a thread on this topic at sleepguide.com and has gotten some good suggestions, but I figured we should start one here, too. With all the smart and creative people on this forum, I'm betting we can come up with something very effective.

Keep in mind that we should keep the saying as simple as possible, avoiding terms we're all familiar with (like "CPAP" or "OSA") because the general public won't know what they mean. We want to raise awareness, not leave people questioning what the bumper sticker might mean. We can include a web address (cpaptalk.com or another) so that people will be encouraged to investigate further.

When we have a bunch of suggestions and some kind of consensus on what might work best, we can post a Poll thread listing the top contenders to see which one the majority likes best, and take it from there.

So, put on your creative thinking caps and post your suggestions here. I'll start with what I suggested on the other site:

ALWAYS TIRED? You might have SLEEP APNEA.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy. ;))

PR S1 ASV 950, DreamWear mask, F&P 150 humidifier, O2 @ 2L.

Tired and Sleepy mean the same to a lot of people. And sleepapnea.com is not very easy to find meaningful info. I prefer http://www.sleep-apnea.com or http://www.sleepapnea.org How About:

DEPRESSED ? IRRITABLE? EXHAUSTED ?
www.sleep-apnea.com

I wonder if we should associate it with snoring? I know I barely snore at all and I have moderate sleep apnea. But loud snoring is such a common symptom with OSA I can't help but think it should be used.

How about one of those white, oval stickers that people have in their window with only three letters on them, you HAVE to ask what it means, or read the tiny subprint and just make it OSA. If someone comes up to you and says, "Hey, what does that mean", that opens the door for you to talk to them about it and spread the awareness......and break out your Quattro and do your favorite Darth Vader impression.

And NO I don't work for these guys.....

I think the best bumperstickers & billboards sell the idea in about 7 or fewer words.

i'm using cpaptalk.com as the example website.

1. Asleep at the wheel?
cpaptalk.com has answers.

2. Sleep Apnea Can Kill
save a life - cpaptalk.com

3. tired of being tired?
get relief - cpaptalk.com

4. Loud Snoring? Daytime sleepiness? Headaches?
cpaptalk.com can help
Hoser since April 2009.
Feb 2009: AHI 45.8 | BP 142/97 | SpO2: 78.9%
2016: AHI 0.9 | BP 122/81 | SpO2: 96.5%

Stranger: How things been goin'?
The Dude: Ahh, you know. Ups and downs, strikes and gutters.

I have a "What's your pressure?" T-shirt

I've worn it a couple of times...pretty much no reactions...only one person said it didn't make sense, and asked what's it about? Too bad, I'm like Rajesh....can't talk to women, if only I didn't drink.

The Dreamer.

Here is the sensationalistic curiosity approach:

SNORING CAN KILL YOU

Ganesha
Hindu god of intellect and wisdom. Remover of Obstacles.
I am not a Hindu or a god, just Mark from New Jersey. But the CPAP mask makes me look like Ganesha.
