CPAP machine noise

I had to use a fan the other night because it was warm, I noticed that the fan drowned out the CPAP machine noise and I slept better. I don't think it's the noise so much that may be keeping me up but rather anticipating the timing of air pressure. In other words, I feel I must breathe in time with the machine, which I believe keeps me awake. Can anyone relate to this?

I've used a fan for years, even during the winter, mostly for the steady "white noise" it provides.

Also, based on a Rested Gal comment regarding better numbers without pressure relief, I reset my C-Flex to 1 instead of 4. Not only did that slightly improve my numbers, but I find that I'm even less distracted by the rhythm of the machine. Your results may vary.

My cpap machine noise bothered me alot in the beginning - then I made a plan.The machine stands on a wooden bookshelf which (I think) contributed to the unwelcome noise. I took hard foam and put it under the machine (cut it out neatly) and I also cover the water chamber with a four folded piece of towel. If you don't have any foam you can use any thickly padded material.

The problem with earplugs is that it makes the noise inside my ears louder...and that's worse than the noise I'm trying to block out at night.

I have a fan in the bedroom now, and that has helped....though not using the integrated humidifier has helped more....

My machine makes no noise. I have it on a wooden step stool by my bed. The only time I hear anything is when something gets in the way of the exhaust port on my mask or if I take the mask off without turning the machine off. I have woken up in the morning and laid there straining to hear anyting and hearing nothing.

I have the same machine as BeanMeScot. I have it on a small table that sits just below my mattress. It is sitting on a computer mouse pad and I have the "whisper cap" on it as well.

I have to strain to hear it at all.

I don't know what machine you have, but I had the same problem with my M-series. There is a "Whisper Cap" attachment for that machine that drops that noise a lot. It was only about $15. Well worth it for me.

I am very noise sensitive, so I also use a white noise machine next to the bed.

For noise reduction, (which I bought for camping.. worried about the neighbors), I also use the whisper cap available from Respironics. There is a concensus at my house that it does reduce the noise of the machine. I would recommend it but YMMV.

I took hard foam and put it under the machine

I folded a hand towel in half and set the machine on it. (Make sure there are no vents on the bottom of your machine!)

I also keep another towel handy for use in the night. I generally drape it over the top of the machine, covering up the blue lights!

I complained so much within the first 30 days of getting the Respironics M Series with C/flex - that they traded it back and gave me the Resmed Auto Set II- it's completely silent. and no glowing buttons. Best trade I ever made!

I have a Respironics M Series. I keep it on a little footstool by the side of my bed, so it's not on the floor and not at the level of my head. I actually don't hear it. What I do hear is the air coming in through the hose and out through the mask. Since I also use an eye mask, I also don't see the lights that seem to bother other folks.

My respironics M-series is really quiet now: Especially after i added the whisper attachment, and additionally when I started to use the humidifier.

I also have it sitting on an old mousepad, and cover it with a piece of cloth to keep off dust, and block out the blue light.

My Resp M series makes more noise than I like, so I got a whisper cap. I installed and removed it several times trying to observe any change,I could not tell any difference in the sound level There appear to be mixed results among users of the whisper cap.

BTW, Link, I followed your suggestion and placed a small towel on top of the mouse pad we were using underneath the machine and it really does make it quieter. Thanks.
