Disneyland with CPAP
Disneyland with CPAP
I'm going to be staying at the Dinseyland hotel at Disneyland next week. I'll be taking my CPAP and distilled water. Anything else i should be thinking about ?
This is my first time away from home with the CPAP and i want it to work as the last place i want to be tired is Disneyland with 2 excited toddlers

Re: Disneyland with CPAP
Sure, I have a suggestion for you: "relax!!!"
CPAP on-the-road is a bit of a nuisance, but overall, is no big deal. Disney is size large fun; you're going to have a great time! Don't sweat the CPAP.
Take a short extension cord (as was already suggested) and make sure when pack your equipment that the humidifier chamber is completely empty. I usually stuff (gently!) a non-lotion Kleenex tissue into the opening of the humidifier chamber, at the point where it mates with the CPAP machine, so that any residual moisture that may not have been shaken out of the chamber when you empty it after your last night of sleep while on vacation does not find it's way into the CPAP machine.
Another thing that I do every day while on vacation is put my machine, hose and mask into my travel bag and zip the bag shut so that nothing finds it's way into the hose or mask during the course of the day. Also, as I don't want the house-keeping staff touching my equipment, having it out of sight puts my mind at ease. Don't forget to be careful regarding water in the humidifier tank if you decide to put your machine away each day.
Have fun!!

I have a mousepad in my travel case, just in case I have to put my machine on a surface that's prone to resonating vibrations!

make sure to empty your humidifier and place your machine someplace that the cleaning staff wont need to mess with it. you dont want them dropping it trying to dust or something.
Re: Disneyland with CPAP
i dont leave it on the humidifier when traveling. I am scared the maid will move it and soak the inside.
Re: Disneyland with CPAP
Especially when traveling away from home, I try to be very picky about who handles the CPAP equipment and what surfaces it comes into contact with. I enclose my CPAP machine in a 2 gallon plastic bag for going into the nasty bins through scanning machines. During the hand inspection by TSA personnel, sometimes they put on clean gloves when examining the CPAP, sometimes not. . When I see them put on clean gloves to examine CPAP, I thank them and compliment them. When they do not, a polite request for them to do so is always honored.
Re: Disneyland with CPAP
Even if you do not tape your mouth, take along a roll or two of micropore or paper tape to suspend the hose from the headboard. Remove it each day when going out and put the hose and mask in a drawer or your carry case so cleaning staff don't mess with it (and so they don't freak out and complain to management that you are defacing the furniture). Regarding the outlet you plug into: check and make certain it is not a switched outlet (many hotels have switched outlets for lamps that are used for general lighting).

Re: Disneyland with CPAP
Thanks for the advice. So i think i'll take my samsonite hard suitcase with combination code to make sure housekeeping do not get at my CPAP, but i'll make sure the humidifier is dry first before i put it away (use the hairdryer to blast it dry?). Or maybe i should just try without the humidifier before i leave and see if i really need to take it? I currently run the humidifier at 2-2.5 .
Also i did try mouth taping and it didnt work so i'll use the leftover tape to suspend my hose as thats how i sleep with it at home. Suspended from a over two foot high headboard. Thanks for that JimW.
I absolutely intend on relaxing and having a good time. The whole idea of going to Disneyland was mine, I wanted to pay back the family for being such a anxious, miserable, tired and annoying person before my CPAP came to the rescue

All great advice here. I will be flying to Nebraska to visit the in-laws in July. My first trip with CPAP!
