Cutting Hybrid Chinflap

Post by Issac » Mon May 11, 2009 12:06 pm

I'm happy with my hybrid facemask but i'm wondering if I would be happier with the chinflap cut off. Who out there has cut the flap off and did it cause leaking or cause it to fit more like the resmed liberty (didnt care for liberty, hurt my nose)?
I have a little stocking trick that eliminates all nasal leaks because i have to sleep on the stomach and I flip flop all over the bed. The stocking is cut and sewn like a headband and worn around my head covering my nose holding pillows tight in place allowing me to swing like tarazan and nothing moves.
The chinflap works great when one is learning to keep the old mouth shut. it beats every chin strap in the world because it gently helps you learn to breathe comfortably with your nose somehow. I now never open my mouth and I'm thinking things might be a little cooler without the cup under my chin.
what i'm asking is will cutting the flap off ruin a great mask? I donated my other 2 mouth cushions a year ago so I dont have those to test.

Hello Issac, I did cut the flap off of mine as I have a long face and it was pulling the mask down. Would I do it again NO as now it wants to ride up and hits the bottom of my nose. I think if it is not bothering you and not causing leaks leave it on.

I'm gonna go the other way and say "cut it off"

I just got the Hybrid a couple weeks ago and I'm still taming it, but when I cut the chin flap off it immediately stopped pulling the pillows out of my nose when my jaw went slack. I had problems with leaking just at the bottom corners of teh cushion. Without the flap, that problem went away.

Our faces are all different though. your mileage may vary and all that. I'd say, get another cushion FIRST so you have a new one and then cut the flap off the old one to test.

Here are my tips on the Hybrid: viewtopic.php?t=14422&highlight=

I will be coming up with a three-year anniversary with the mask in August.
