Just got my cpap machine last Friday
Just got my cpap machine last Friday
So far so good. I just started using this machine Friday night. I have been sleeping great and my snoring has stopped completely. THough its kind of hard getting a full nights sleep with a 2 week old baby in the house.
Can I get some feed back on my equipment. I didnt really get to choose what machine I wanted. The doctor's office pretty much gave me what they had.

My pressure setting is at 7. The doctor said I had mild sleep apnea. I went from hitting a low oxygen level in the 70's to staying up in the high 90's with the cpap machine. And my insurance completely covered the entire setup. I paid my $15 copay and that is all.

Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
I will give you the same advice I was given, as I just got my machine on Friday:
First, click on the user control panel in the upper left of the page and fill out your equipment there (in text mode) so that it will list on all your posts.
Second, get a copy of your doctor's signed perscription for your xPAP equipment. That way if your DME is trying to screw you over, you can go somewhere else to get your equipment.
Third, You are the patient and ultimately responsible for your own well being, just don't take what they give you in the office. You have the right to be proactive in your treatment as well as what type of equipment you get since you (or your insurance) is paying for it.
Fourth, WELCOME TO THE FORUMS! This place is awesome. I just started on CPAP on Friday and it's quite an interesting lifestyle.

Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
Wow! It looks like you got the first Fisher & Paykel cpap AUTO machine! I am very interested to see how you like it!! Fisher & Paykel has made some good machines but this is their first auto. Did you get software as well? I sure would like to know how that works as well!
I have the Opus 360 mask and am just trying it out. So far I like it very much. I am having a little trouble finding the right pillow size for me but, since it comes with 3 sizes I can work on it!
A pressure of 7 cm is quite low. I have a 90% pressure (on a Respironics M series auto, set at a pressure range) of 12 cm. Also glad to hear that your sleep apnea is mild. The pressure setting does not indicate how severe your sleep apnea is. It is just the pressure required to keep YOUR airway open and that is individual.
I'm sure that trying to get a good night's sleep is a challenge with a new baby in the house! Congratulations and good luck!
klockemy, I see as I was typing, has given you good advice!
I, for one, and I'm sure many on the forum, will be interested to know how you like that machine. If you have the software and can share some reports that would be great!
Welcome and good luck with your therapy!!

Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
I dont really know how to use the software on the machine. All I know is that when I go to the doctor I am supposed to pull the mini memory card otu of the back and bring it with me. I need to research it and figure out how to use the software. I also have a print out of all my levels during oth my sleep tests. Ill be sure to post all that good stuff.
Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
Sounds great DaveG.
When you take your mini memory card to your doctor, ask if he will give a printed copy of the data he gets from it. If you post it here, along with your sleep studies, there's lots of help to be had.
You may not really have the software (probably you don't). For most machines, the patient has to buy that separately. The doctor probably won't sell it to you. Most doctors don't want patients to have it. Many of us here do have it though.

Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
Im not even sure that I have the sleep style 200 series AUTO machine. This is a picture of the exact one I have. (The one on the left)
Mine has the little blue box next to the LCD screen but the auto one has a little yellow box on it too so I dont think I have the auto one. Im confused as to exactly which machine I have. Also does insurance cover the software cost? And how do you go about retrieving the data? Does the card plug into a card reader like the ones used for pictures?

Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
I'm not sure you have the auto either. I was surprised. Most of the time an auto is not prescribed as a first machine except in particular circumstances. If you had a good sleep study and, as you say, your sleep apnea is mild, you may not have an auto. When you had the picture posted earlier, I clicked on it and it took me to the cpap.com page that showed what I think was an auto but I may be wrong. I tried doing a little research on the Fisher Paykel auto but am not sure yet what you really have.
If it is not an auto, the mini memory card will only show compliance (how often and how long you used it). That's all the insurance company is interested in and the DME is usually only interested in selling you a machine that will give them the most profit and that is not usually an auto, especially if the doctor did not prescribe and auto. See what data he may give you from you mini memory card when you see the doctor.
By the way, be sure to get a copy of your prescription to have. If you ever want to order a machine online "out of pocket" you will be glad you have it. You can buy an auto online with a prescription for just a straight cpap.
Insurance will not pay for software except in the case of a very few companies. If you don't have an auto, there is no need to buy the software. If your machine is not an auto, you will not get any detailed data, which is what is most helpful in optimizing your therapy so software would be a waste of your money - unitl or if you get an auto.
If you don't have an auto wait until you do, perhaps sometime in the future, have one before buying the software. The auto you might eventually get may not be a Fisher & Paykel so, hold off on the software for now. Depending upon what auto you have you may need a card reader or you may not.
You can see, below my post, what machine I have and I have the software and the card reader needed for my machine. They are all different.
Keep us posted!

Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
Ok thanks. So there isnt an option for my machine on the signature thing then. The only 200 they have listed here tio choose from is the auto. Like I said the one in the picture on the left is my exact machine. When I get home today I'll see if I can figure out which 200 series I have. These are the different ones available...... 231 232 233 234 236 238
Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
It would be helpful to know which of the Fisher Paykel 200 Series machines you do have. You can see that Fisher & Paykel is not very common among users on this forum. That doesn't mean it is not a good machine!
If it isn't in the "drop down" menu of machines, type it in your profile under "additional comments".

Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
F&K makes great machines. I started out with one of theirs. It's more quiet than the M series that I've been using lately. I kept "upgrading" out of pocket and went from the basic F&K with humidifier to an M Series Pro that's data-capable, and than on to an auto. The later two has c-flex which makes exhalation easier and much more comfortable. But I do miss my old F&K's rather large water chamber for its humidifier.
I still take the F&K out on trips with me and I plan to keep it around as my spare.
Haven't tried out your mask. I ended up using an LT nasal pillow set and haven't looked back.
Welcome!

Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
I looked on the bottom of my machine and its a 244 model. It says it on the bottom label.
Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
Wow...my doctors office is charging $730 for my machine. Its $595 on the website. BIG difference. Im just renting mine now though through my insurance
Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
I was doing some more research last evening and it looks, to me, like you have the top fof the line auto machine from Fisher & Paykel.
I hope I'm right! If so, it would be great if you go a printed detailed report when you go in to have the doctor read the card.
I'm sure lots of people here would like to see what data you get. I sure would!
The difference in the price od machines online and from DMEs and doctors is outrageous! They make a bundle!

Re: Just got my cpap machine last Friday
I have been battling my cpap for 3 years and recently found out that my pressure needs to be increased, however I have not found a manual to do so and have been waiting over 3 weeks for info on how to fix.
I have a SleepStyle 234, would anyone know where I can get the info?
