Newbie to the forum.

Hello All,

Used my CPAP for the first time last night. It seemed to be comfortable for the most part. However, I did wake in the middle of the night and had some difficulty getting back to sleep. This morning I felt somewhat rested, not an overwhelmingly refreshing sleep....yet. By the way, I use two pillows at night one regular and a tempurpedic style pillow under my head which I prefer. Do many CPAP users use two pillows?

My level is set at 11 and I think I filled out my profile correctly. I have heard it takes a couple of weeks to feel the benfits and I am assuming the same can be said for an uninterrupted night sleep. Thanks for the forum to share in all things CPAP related.

Cheers,

Chris

Welcome to the forum!

It can take some time to feel better. Everyone is different so there's no way to predict whether you'll feel better in a few days, weeks or sometimes it can take months. Hopefully you'll see at least some improvement soon. Try not to get discouraged if you're one of those who takes longer.

Some of us stick around not because we're miserable but because we've been helped so much by members of the forum that we'd like to pass that on to others

Best of luck!
Mindy

Thank you Mindy! I am eager to be able to benefit and eventually contribute to the network here. With anything else in life, it just takes time and I need to patient.

Thanks again!

Chris

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum Some people feel the benefits of their therapy quicker than others. I still feel pretty tired, but after 4 months of using my CPAP I am no longer fuzzy headed. As for the pillows, I sleep with 1 cervical neck pillow, It is kinda flat in the middle with the rolled edge for my neck. I think it is the most comfy. My husband on the other hand sleeps on one of those fatter memory foam type pillows and he loves it... Everyone is different and if it works for you and you can keep mask leaks down with 2 pillows then I say great
I dont suffer from insanity.... I enjoy every minute of it!

Hi Chris,

I am only on week 3 now, but after less than a week I switched from full fask mask to the pillow. I like the pillow mask much better now (more comfortable). I still have good and bad
days, but at least have a few restful days already is a small improvement over what I was going thru without the machine just a month ago.

We hope to see you back soon.

I took me quite a while to get used to sleeping with CPAP - One of the things I noticed early on was that although I did wake up, it was no longer in a state of alert: heart banging, sweat covered, snorting or gasping. Snuggling back to sleep became much easier when my brain and mind figured out that these remaining arousals were no longer the result of danger. Same with those rare occasions I have to take a potty break (after drinking too much tea in the evening). I'm back in bed an asleep within minutes.

In the very beginning, I found myself awake after 3-4 hours, and rather confused by feeling so unusually rested for a mid-night wake-up. I got over that pretty soon.
