humidity build up in the mask

Post by dcopelan » Wed May 06, 2009 2:11 pm

moisture in the mask makes the mask moist inside and water, just a little, drains down my nose and wakes me up. Now when I breath in hard or take a deep breath my back, lungs hurt. I'm a week new at this. Does anyone have suggestions for this?

Less heat in the humidifier
A cover for your hose (http://www.padacheeks.com)
A cover for the mask's narrow tube - if the mask has a narrow tube (http://www.padacheeks.com)
If these are not enough, then a heated hose: http://www.sleepzone.com.au

I happen to use all of the above options, I need them all to solve the problem (called "rainout" on the forum).

The only masks that don't have rainout is the nasal aire mask line. All you can do is turn down your humidity or buy a heated hose.

Once I bought a fleece cover for both the long hose and also the short hose on my mask (from CPAP.com), I have not had any problems with rainout even though my humidifier is on the 3 setting. As mentioned above there are a lot more things you can do also.

Hello, it will get better. It sore because you are breathing deeper then you were. It took a Month to feel alittle better but still notice it on some days but I have COPD so it hurts anyway.

hmmm... that's a bit broad. I've been on CPAP over 10 years and used many different masks and only ever had any rain out at all with just one of them. Condensation requires several things coming together. You get the right combination, you get rainout.

Raising the room ambient temp can alleviate rainout. Lowering humidifier heat can alleviate it. Routing your hose differently can alleviate it.

Another option is to purchase an Aussie Heated Hose from http://www.sleepzone.com.au. I live in a humid valley and I've had no rainout since I got my Aussie hose.

I've tried the hose cover - it helped, but not enough.

With xPAP therapy, do or do not; there is no try.

Ew yeah, you live in a humid part of Tx, I live in a very dry part...in fact we have only had 0.3 inches of rain this year. So my rain out was probably much easier to fix than if I lived in a humid climate.
