Quietest CPAP/New Louder M Series?
Hello everyone. My beloved 3-year-old Remstar Plus M Series has broken (the pressure now fluctuates wildly). So I have to replace it. I was given a new M Series that looks the same, but it is LOUD. Have others experienced this? What is the quietest and best CPAP out there now? (I do like the fact that you can open the chamber on the humidified to clean it, which is not a feature on many other CPAPs.)
Thanks,
Peter
Thanks,
Peter

I have the ResMed S8 Autoset II and I believe it is the quietest XPAP machine on the market at the present time. It also now has a humidifier that opens to facilitate easier cleaning.

Your ResMed unit is rated at <24 db at 10cm pressure, measured at a distance of 1 meter.mdbarthe wrote:I have the ResMed S8 Autoset II and I believe it is the quietest XPAP machine on the market at the present time. It also now has a humidifier that opens to facilitate easier cleaning.
The Intellipap Auto is rated at <26 db, tested per ISO 17510. I assume that ISO 17510 contains a standard protocol for testing the noise level of a machine, but I don't know what it is.
Does anyone know if this is an apples-to-apples comparison?

I use a "muffler" on my M series to keep it quiet. It's called a Whisper Cap ... and it does quiet the unit.

My personal experience - the Intellipap is much quieter then a Remstar M series or an S8 autoset I.
I haven't had the opportunitty to try an Autoset II to see if it is quiter than an Autoset I.

ISO 17510 protocol equates to 10 cm H20 at 1 meter. It should be noted that a difference in sound level less than 3 dBA would be barely noticeable to the human ear. This may account for the difference of opinion on this thread.El Pap wrote:Your ResMed unit is rated at <24 db at 10cm pressure, measured at a distance of 1 meter.mdbarthe wrote:I have the ResMed S8 Autoset II and I believe it is the quietest XPAP machine on the market at the present time. In my 10+ years on CPAP I have to say the Intellipap is the quietest machine I've owned. I previously used Remstars (from soloLX to auto w/c-flex)
My wife agrees.... that's important!

Re: Quietest CPAP/New Louder M Series?
After all the posts about how many dbs the ResMeds are- how many are the Respironics machines?? I am just curious- and they can't be THAT loud-on the third night, I forgot all about mine and fell right to sleep-so did my hubby; and we haven't heard it since...my up and down trips at night have nothing to do with hearing the machine. In fact,I have to check it to make sure it is on when I turn over at night. ( it always is, except for once last week when we lost power- I was awake within 5 minutes) Thanks, if you do know about the Respironics noise levels. Thanks anyway- I love learning anything about this new world!

I know why you're here... I know what you've been doing... why you hardly sleep,.. and why night after night, you sit by your computer... It's the question that drives us... It's the question that brought you here. The Matrix,1999

Re: Quietest CPAP/New Louder M Series?
Quietest machine I have ever used (from a big range) has been the Vpap Adapt SV - but the Bipap Auto SV which does make a fair bit of white noise is no problem once wife & I adapt.
When I 1st tried the Vpap Adapt SV after 8 months of the Bipap Auto SV, wife kept asking me if my machine was on. She can hear a mouse sneeze at the other end of the house.
The S8 II blower is modeled on the dual impeller design of the Vpap Adapt SV. The significance of putting a fan at each end of the motor shaft (dual impeller) is that it is harmonically balanced & for the same rpm they can shift more air as the dc brushless motors are fully capable of the loads. But by having dual & balanced impellers, the motor hum can be greatly reduced for the same airflow. Also the acceleration is very precise & allows almost instant adjustment of pressure without the whine that earlier models were famous for (e.g. The Vpap IIIs & the early M-Series).
