My surgery oct 21, 08

Post by nate fry » Wed May 06, 2009 12:02 am

I used to choke during sleep or when I was about to sleep especially if i was on my back. My ent told me about a tounge advancement surgery where they sew up threw your chin into your tounge down around a bone and tie off of a screw, I have to say I thought this sounded insane but trusted my doctor. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I never ever choke any more and can sleep on my back if I was and no more choking, what a crazy operation and wow how glad i am I got it.
I also had my septon fixed, turbinate reduction, tounsils out, uvala trimmed and the tounge advancement. all combined seems to make a difference in my life. i sleep better, no more afrin, I feel better. I recommend going under general though. In a wink of an eye it is over. I felt fine afterwards and I had this all done at once, took 4 hours. But you do need a good doctor. Any questions , just ask.

Thanks for that update - sounds like a lot of surgery. What was your post surgery and recovery time like? I remember reading about the tongue part on here - tongue tethering I think - but you had so much more. I notice you still have equipment in your profile. Were these surgeries for the choking but not the apnea? Glad to hear you are improved, and would be interested in hearing more, especially about the difficulty of the different procedures. Congratulations on your good results.

I had a good recovery. The tonsils hurt a lot though. I still have apnea but is is much better and I feel much better, sleep much better and my life is much better. surgeries probably won't remove apnea but they can improve your situation dramatically since we have to live with it. It was worth it and for me the surgery was a blink of the eye. And a littel demerol didn't hurt.

i'm having radiosurgery in less than 2 weeks time for a brain tumour but hopefully will reduce seizures. Whilst it sounds a scary option apparently the recovery rates are really quick. They recommend an overnight stay to ensure you ok and a few days off work and the only downside is a headache afterwards. you dont even lost your hair. Will let you know once i've had it done
