Any human size FFmasks?

Post by Leonbergergirl » Thu Apr 30, 2009 12:10 pm

F&P431 fits, but is so overly capacious a Honey Badger could sleep in it.
So i line the mask with Moleskin, cram handfuls of pillow polyfill into the gaping
cavity, but it feels like sleeping in a wind chamber with a WalMart attached.

I see DME soon, and am wondering about Quattro or Activa FF. Do you
experienced folks have any better suggestions? A mouth as dry as the Sahara
probably dooms me to a FF mask, but i reallyreally hate them. Why are those masks
so da--ed big??
Thanks in advance for any observations,
Leonbergergirl

Wonder if a shallow FF mask would suit you better, Leonbergergirl. Most FF masks don't offer shallow sizes, but the Ultra Mirage comes in shallow sizes:

I use the Quattro and I actually really like it. I have a couple of nasal masks but much more prefer the Quattro. At first it seemed strange that I could feel air on my face when I inhaled, but now I really like it.

I am new to this (5 nights so far), and chose the Quattro mask from the start. Although roomy because it covers both the nose and mouth, it is quite comfortable in terms of airflow though it. There has to be airflow through a mask to scrub out your exhaled CO2. IMHO a shallower mask will feel 'windier' because of the need for substantial airflow. Whatever you get, make sure it is the right size for you.

You might like to look at the Zzz-mask.

I don't like FF masks, but had to have one during a recent respiratory infection. I ended up replacing the headgear that comes with it with the strap from my CL2 because the supplied headgear was ginormous. The mask, however, worked well for its intended purpose.

No, they are not designed for (or, by apparently) humans. They are made for cartoon characters with flat faces, like Gumby and sponge Bob. They have no relation to the shape of the human face at all. Human faces are curved and rounded. If my mask is fitting at the top then the bottom is not fitting right and visa-versa. It is like a see-saw on pivoting on my cheek bones, unless I have it so tight that it hurts.

*Exactly* what I go through. The sides of the mask are a straight plane from top to bottom. If I tighten it enough to try to stop leaks at top and bottom, my cheekbones feel like they're going to cave in. If I loosen it, it becomes a choice between whether I want it to leak at the top or the bottom.

I too recommend the Zzz-Mask - try the small size. I've tried so many masks just to see if I can find a better one than my Zzz (medium) with no luck so far.
