Not feeling rested

Post by oceanpearl » Mon Apr 27, 2009 10:52 am

To me all my numbers look good but I am not feeling as rested as I was two months ago.

REMstar Auto Statistics
Auto-CPAP Mean Pressure
Auto-CPAP Peak Average Pressure
Average Device Pressure <= 90% of Time
9.9 cm H2O
12.5 cm H2O
11.2 cm H2O
Average Time in Large Leak Per Day 5.5 mins.
Average Time in Apnea Per Day 3.0 mins.
Average AHI 2.5
I just want to go back to sleep!

You need to control those leaks. The large leaks are bad. A lot of your therapy is going out into the bedroom and not into your airway so it's not helping you much. Your other data is not accurate if your leaks are not under control.

I see that you are using a nasal mask. You may be mouth breathing ( probably are). You need to consider taping or going to a full face mask.

I gather you're using your machine in Auto mode? You didn't say what your pressure range is.

Try CPAP mode (or CFLE mode if you use C-Flex). Pick a pressure between the "average" and "90%" and see how you do.

You'll probably see better AHI numbers and feel more rested (if the pressure changes are disturbing your sleep).

Hi buddy! I agree - you gotta work on those large leaks. Either try a FFM, or tape, or try a new chinstrap or something.

My latest taping method - use 3M Gentle Release blue painter's tape. Tape at a slight angle, using two strips, so you make a shallow "X" pattern, with a divet under your nose. Works better for me than 1 strip, and keeps the tape edge from cutting into my nose.

I'm controlling my leaks really well with my Deluxe Chinstrap:

I don't need to tape with this chinstrap. Others report they really like the PAP-CAP: http://www.pur-sleep.com

Good luck!!!

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)
