DID I PICK THE RIGHT MACHINE?

Post by SKYTALKER » Wed Apr 22, 2009 5:19 pm

My CPAP machine is a Remstar Plus M series. When I filled out my profile, did I pick the right machine? There were so many options. I have a lot of relearning to do to catch up with what people are talking about. Thank God for this website. One thing is that after reading many topics, I have come to realize that I have been one of those people who just accepted whatever was offered to me by my insurance company (AETNA) and APRIA, who supplies my equipment. At least now, I find myself attempting to get informed and trying to determine the BEST equipment for my particular head.

Thanks a lot guys & girls,

Unfortunately, I'm afraid the answer to your question is, "no".

However, if you aren't interested in a machine that has full reporting capability.....i.e. a machine that can use Viewer reporting software......and if you aren't interested in a machine that can adjust pressure to suit your needs....and if you aren't very interested in taking charge of your own therapy, what you have "will do".

What you have is "bottom of the line".......

Hi, "neighbor."

When you said, "There were so many options," I took that to mean the list of machines to choose from in the drop-down menu in your profile. Check to see what's written on the top of your machine. I have the same basic machine, but mine is the "M Series."

If, on the other hand, you mean you had a wide variety of machines from which to choose at the DME, then no, you made the wrong choice, IMO. The machine you have will not give you (or your doctor or DME) any pertinent data besides compliance (hours of usage). It won't tell you your AHI, HI, leak rate, or anything else. You'll have to rely on how you feel to determine whether the therapy is working well for you, and I've found out (the hard way) that that isn't the best road to take on this journey. (That's an understatement, btw.)

Oh, and a tip for you: Most folks here prefer that you list your equipment as Text rather than Images, as the image icons are small and can make it difficult to differentiate between different models.

Why do they even bother making non-data machines? I can't imagine it would be that much cheaper to manufacture.

Ok, I re-read your post and see that the machine you chose from the list is the Remstar Plus, but you say in your post that you have the M Series. If you DO have the M Series (check what it says on the top of the machine), then no, the one you chose from the drop-down menu is wrong.

Sorry for any confusion in my earlier post.

If you CPAP says Plus on the top it is NOT fully data capable. No Respironics w/Plus in the name is fully data capable.

Should we start explaining?

There is one medical insurance reimbursement code for CPAP machines .. as in, if they give you the cheapest machine or the most expensive .. they get paid 1 rate. You bet they just gave you the cheapest meaning they made the highest profit on you. Sorry ..

I went back in the first 30 days with a clear Dr. prescription for an Auto machine so I could better monitor my therapy.

It is up to you .. if you just want compliance data, the low end machine you got will do that .. if you want a machine that gives you useful data .. go back and ask for the M series Pro
S8 AutoSet II with H4i Humid, reader + software
M Series Auto w Aflex with HH, reader + software
IntelliPAP AutoAdjust with HH, reader + software
Mirage Liberty Full Face with Nasal Pillows and Head Gear
Pursleep, Pad A Cheeks~ :)
