my original diagnosis was obstructive sleep apnea ..with some central sleep apnea
i have lost 35 lbs {doctors orders} ...and now i seem to be left with central sleep apnea ..my brain is not sending my body a signal to breath ...causing many arousals
since I have been diagnosed with central sleep apnea my doctor seems to think adaptive servo ventilation for central sleep apnea will help
the big problems are
1) i live in canada and health canada does no recognise asv as a treatment that can be claimed .and even if it did i have already been given a elite 2 and can not upgrade for 5 years ...max claim is 780.00
2) asv is a new tecnolegy and is very expensive . my doctor can prescribe it but i cant seem to find it on the net very well ...prices ect ...my doctor seems to think it would cose 6000.00 in canada if we can get it
((( ouch)))...
my 3rd problem
i work in a (SAFETY SENSITIVE JOB) ..and am being held out of service at work till i get treatment to reduce my A.h.i. below 15 per hr ..they are now 30 to 40 ...and was 57 at start ..so some improvement there
any thoughts on machine prices ...places to buy a machine ..also ..what machines have a.s.v. tecnology in them ???
tanks ..i know its a tall oder but i am desperate

Re: adaptive servo ventilation for central sleep apnea
You can go to cpap.com and check out all the machines with that technology. Right now on cpapauction.com there is a new one at a very good price of $800

I was going to bid on that one, myself, for a back-up machine. But you sound as though you need it more than I do.
Good luck,
Bev

Re: adaptive servo ventilation for central sleep apnea
i agree that cpap auction item may be a goer as these machines are pricey. I have just purchased a resmed vpap adapt SV that falls into this class and i am very happy with it, i am getting great results with it but it cost me $3999 plus $300 for a humidifier- now this is Australian dollars so as you can see it is expensive but not as bad as the $6000 you were told. I was only able to claim $500 for my whole set up including mask! at least i can claim on my tax return too- is this an option in canada too??

I have seen Bipap AuotSV units go for under $2000 on cpap auction. I bought mine from there & paid $US2,200 about a year ago. I also bought my Vpap Adapt SV from there & got that for even less that half what I paid for the Bipap AutoSV (older model but works fine).
Both these units are excellent.
Here are some comments as 1 liners ...
- The Bipap AutoSV is a bit noisier than the Adapt SV (which is dead quiet)
- The Bipap Auto SV has lots of settings choices & is in many respects more tunable than the Adapt SV
- The Vpap SV took me longer to get used to that did the Bipap AutoSV - at 1st I could not go longer than 2 nights before switching back to the Bipap SV
- The Adapt SV response to activity is almost instantaneous & this took getting used to
- Bipap AutoSV seems to provide a deeper sleep than I get with the Vpap SV but the daytimes seem to favour the Vpap SV
