Nocturnal dexterity

Post by Diver71 » Thu Apr 09, 2009 5:42 am

Just wanted to share last night's efforts with everyone and see if this is a common issue amongst the hoseheads in here.

I went to bed around midnight as is usual for me and noticed that when I put the headgear on that it pulled on my hair a little when I moved ... mildly annoying but not enough to stop me from dropping off to sleep.

I woke at about 430am and immediately noticed that something was wrong - i had a dry mouth and a splitting headache (two things that haven't happened since I started on CPAP). It took a few seconds to realise that I wasn't wearing my mask. Now this in itself isn't abnormal I have a couple of times removed my mask in my sleep. Where this differed from my usual removal was that when I located my mask I found that I had stripped it down (removed the cuff and attaching plate) as well as removing the hose from both mask and humidifier and disassembled the humidifier unit ready for cleaning as well.

Interested to know if others do this too ... at least I can say that I am familiar enough with the equipment that I can take it all apart in my sleep

I have awakened to find that I had removed my mask once or twice (in three years), but never have found it torn down ready to clean. Are you taking any sleep meds. There are reports of some pretty complicated "sleep doing" associated with some meds.

Good Luck,
TerryB

Reports of taking the mask off while sleeping abound. Most are of the garden variety - including mine. Quite some time ago someone reported having put their mask neatly away in a drawer. It will be interesting to read what kinds of stories come up, and if any of those with stories such as yours are also sleepwalkers, either with or without suspect meds.

No sleep meds, I try and avoid any drugs.

Also no history of sleep walking or anything similar.

That's pretty interesting. At least you left evidence of what you did. Did you ever think you might have done other things that didn't leave such an obvious trail! Just a thought.

It freaked me out enough when I first found out that I had severe OSA - since that is something that also happens when you are totally unaware!

Now you have got me thinking Sue ..... um .... I surely hope not ... my sleeping urges could get me in all kinds of trouble.

I did the same thing 3 times in the beginning. I pride myself on remembering everything. My guess is these things get filled into short-term memory and not filled in long-term. Kinda like a dream poof when you awake
