Re: understanding data on my elite 2
I also have a Resmed S8 Elite II, EPR on 3, pressure set to 10.0. My mask is a Swift LT.
The numbers on my machine are always in the single digits.
Leak always >1.0
HI usually 3.0 or 4.0
AI never more than <1.0
AHI under 5.0 consistently
Is the correct machine listed? The numbers you show seem very high for a Resmed. Somebody else have a thought?

Re: understanding data on my elite 2
I also have a Resmed Elite S8 II and those numbers on the LCD display are per Hour. Sounds like your number needs to be below 15 and you have some way to go. I noticed with mine that my numbers were much better using a Nasal mask than with a Nasal pillow even though the leak rate was much better with the pillow. I also noted that my AI's were much lower when I was sleeping on my side. Since you have a need to reach a much better number quick you may want to use a full face mask like the Quatro and force yourself to sleep on your side. It may be worth a try. I understand sowing a Tennis Ball into the back of your PJs works for most.

Re: understanding data on my elite 2
If you were taking your mask on and off, or it was leaking a lot, or your were shifting it around, those numbers may not be accurate. The numbers are events per hour. I'm not sure why they are only looking to get your numbers down to 15, usually they look for <5.
What pressure are you titrated for? Do you know what pressure your machine is set to? Once you get leaks handled, then you will be able to get a picture of whether your pressure is adequate to control your apnea. If you can't get your mask to work, you may need to try a different one. There is lots of info on this board about adapting a mask to work for you. Try looking at the top of the page, and click on the yellow lightbulb called "Our Wisdom." Lots of good ideas there.

Re: understanding data on my elite 2
Dan,
Your numbers with cpap are as bad as without it. If your mouth is coming open then all of the air that is supposed to be keeping your airway open is just pouring out into the room and doing you no good. You need to either get a full face mask, or a chin strap and tape your mouth closed at night. I expect that you will see quite a difference when you do.
Can you add your equipment to your profile along with your pressure in the comment field please? It would be helpful in giving further comments.

To get an accurate reported Leak rate, since you are using a non-Resmed mask, your Mask Selection should be set to Standard.
At the Standard Mask Selection your Resmed will automatically deduct 0.4 L/s or 24 L/M from the reported Leak rate. You then need to get out your F&P HC 407 mask literature and look at the graph table for the allowed vent rate at your set pressure and compare that to the reported Leak rate, keeping in mind that 24 L/M has already been deducted from that reported to determine your TRUE Leak rate.
These devices have an internal, 24 hour, noon to noon clock. You must check your night's data before noon as at noon that night's data is rolled over into the total averages and no nightly data is available until you sleep w/it again after noon.

i am a little confused about what you said above ...can you claerify
thanks
ps some info i found out today on the net
alright with some investigating i found out
my.... f/p flexifit 407 ...at 9 cmh2o is 34l/m
resmed set at ultra .......at 9 cmh2o is 32l/m
resmed set at standard...at 9 cmh2o is 24l/m
so it seems close ....how can i adjust for my true leak rate

Re: understanding data on my elite 2
Okay,
1] the allowed vent rate for the HC 407 at 9 cm of pressure is 34 L/M
2] Resmed subtracts 24 L/M for the Standard Mask Selection
3] So you must add 10 L/M to the reported Leak rate.

Re: understanding data on my elite 2
You leak rate is WAY too high. 0.10 or lower is generally good.MU2A wrote:so if my leak rate the last 2 nights have been .80 and .78 l/s
