Incisionless procedure for GERD

Post by tdm5032c » Mon Apr 06, 2009 3:19 pm

Just thought I'd post this link since I know a lot of us with sleep apnea also suffer from GERD or chronic heartburn. Looks promising.

Thanks for posting this. Since starting CPAP a few weeks ago, I've found that I tend to have more heartburn than before. Not sure why, but I'm taking more meds to keep it in control...

That does look good. I'll let them practice a little more before I sign up.

i have had severe reflux for years and swallowing problems- i don't know if this makes any difference but my problems are due to MS affecting the nerve supply to the esophagus (the esophagus contracts when you swallow usually), For me a really fantastic side effect of the Vpap is that my reflux is vastly improved! When i told my Doctor he was not surprised, he said that the additional air pressure helps keep things down! I can imagine if you are one who has problems with aerophagia it could actually make things worse

I am bumping this excellent post - the story should be of great interest to cpap users. As already mentioned a big percentage of us (esp males) have GERD or refux problems that have contributed significantly to our OSA.

Anyone who wakes up with acid taste in their mouth or heavy mucus in their throats, are showing symptoms of this.
From what I know, an outpatient procedure that can show such a high level of long term success is a big leap forward.

This is a good find.
