nasal pillows for newbie?

Post by sbr3500 » Mon Aug 08, 2005 1:38 pm

Anyone out there who took to the nasal pillows right away? is that unrealistic?

Sounds like I have 3 options. Pillows, something that just covers my nose, and a full face.

What has everyone's experience been initially?

Hi

I took to the pillow right away and wouldn't use any other type of mask. I have the swift and the breeze, and started with the swift, which I would say is a very easy one to start with especially as it comes with all three sizes to start with.

The real issue is what shape are your nares (we call them nostrils in the UK). If they are round or oval, you should be fine with a pillow. But, if they are slotted you may have some difficulty.

Hope this helps

I've had only 4 nights of treatment, all with the Swift. I had a small bit of soreness the first night because of too low humidity and the wrong angle of the pillows. Since then, it's been wonderful!

What everyone else said!

I just finished my first time with the Swift (at titration study) and I had no problems, no discomfort except the usual "Oh! Something new!" thing which you just get used to. (Not painful at all, just different.)

Good luck.

Yes, get the swift, and use the largest of the three nasal plugs that you can use and it not leak.

I took to the Breeze/nasal pillows instantly. Same way with the Aura pillows. And the Swift (even though I don't use it now, the Swift's pillows themselves were no problem.)

Swift is the one I'd recommend for first time "pillows" users, simply because it suits so many right out of the box and comes with all three pillows sizes.

Definitely get the Swift. I've had it from day one. The problems that I had and are still having had nothing to do with my Swift. Just last week, I had a sore nose (on the outside of my nose) that seemed to be caused by my mask. Don't know if I tightened it in the nite and got it to tite or what.
But it only lasted for a couple of days.
I am not sure I can stand my nose covered. I had a lot of trouble with this during my study. And I have no trouble wearing my glasses with Swift.

If you can sleep with you mouth closed, no reason for anyone to anything but a nasal pillow interface... much easier to tolerate.

And the Swift is very easy to wash up in the morning. Bonus!
