Masks suitable for sleeping on one's side

Post by Cuddly Duddly » Sat Mar 28, 2009 6:34 pm

Can anyone tell me if there any nasal masks which might be suitable for me? I move around a lot in my sleep and very often like to sleep on my stomach with my head to one side. However, this will usually result in loud leaks from my current mask.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I use Respironics Comfort Fusion mask, sounds like our sleep patterns are similar. I can comfortably sleep on my side or stomach, but have to start out always on my back until I am relaxed. It is the only mask I have, tried one with nasal pillows but could not use it. Been on cpap for 3 months and everything is going great. Sometimes I do have to adjust my mask when on side or stomach but that is not a problem.

Cuddly, you may want to register and fill out your equipment profile, you get better advice if we know what you're already using. That being said,

I used a nasal mask for a few months, since I was absolutely convinced that I could not tolerate a mask with nasal pillows.....then I had reason to try the Swift LT for Her, and fell in love right away. I sleep on my back, sides, stomach, you name it...wearing that mask is like I'm not wearing anything at all comfortwise, and I have no problem with leaks.

I'm a 100% side sleeper. I use the Swift LT and it works great.

Most any mask that fits you well (that is the key ... everyone is different so different masks fit different people differently) should work. Try finding the right bed pillow and lay with your heard on the edge and your face sort of hangning off that edge. But more importantly, if you move around a lot ... you need to route your hose up over your head. Try searching for "hose routing" ... you may need to register first though ... it is free to do so.

I sleep on my side with the Swift LT. I use a chin strap to run over the leather tabs that run out to the mask itself, and that keeps everything snug and in place.

I'm also finding the Nasal Aire II seems to stay in place while sleeping on my side...

SnuggleHose - Got the 8 foot and cut it down to 6, used the rest for mask hoses.
Memory Foam Pillow - Cut my own out of my Tempur-pedic pillow. (works great!)

I am quite happy with my Opus 360, albeit the new version I just got is not as comfortable as the previous version....I am considering the swift lite for her at some point perhaps

cheers
